Devin Haney reigns as the WBC Lightweight Champion of the world. The Eraser has been unable to land a big fight after grabbing the interim gold back in September 2019.
Haney picked up a scintillating knockout win over Zaur Abdullaev to grab the interim gold. The 21-year-old boxer was later elevated as the WBC champion after Vasyl Lomachenko was promoted as the Franchise champion.
In the process, Haney became the youngest boxer to date to win the lightweight gold.

The 21-year-old boxer has called out Vasyl Lomachenko in the past. However, the much-anticipated match-up could not capitalize, with the bout going straight to the “Takeover” Teofimo Lopez.
“I think I got to go in there and look bad to get these guys to get in the ring with me. The better that I look, it seems like that the more they are running,” Davis said in a recent press-conference.
Ahead of his second title defense against the Cuban boxer Yuriorkis Gamboa, Haney stated that he will put on a statement performance. One that will guarantee him a match against the likes of Teofimo Lopez and Gervonta Davis.

The “Takeover” has shown no interest in competing in the lightweight division. However, there’s a possibility that the 21-year-old boxer could take on Lopez to unify his WBC Lightweight strap. First, he will have to get past Gamboa.
“I am gonna go in there and like I said, I am gonna put on a statement performance and get the job done. Beat him worse than he has ever been beat before,” Haney said.
Lopez has shown no interest in a rematch with Vasyl Lomachenko. It won’t be wrong to say that boxing fans could finally witness the Eraser take on the Matrix next. Earlier, Haney had claimed that he would end the hype of Loma.
