Jaime Munguia is up against his biggest challenge yet. Canelo Alvarez is not just a tough opponent but the fantasy opponent of every boxer. However, walking this path is not easy for the fighter. The cost of such an undertaking? Missing out on time spent with his family.
Right after Munguia had won over John Ryder in January this year, Munguia called on Canelo for a fight. When the Mexican counterpart accepted the fight, Munguia had no time to waste. He immediately entered the camp for the big event. That meant that he even had to leave his newborn son behind. That remained his biggest struggle during camp.

On New Year’s Day, the fighter announced to the world on his Instagram that his son was born, and it was the best New Year’s present he could have received. Posting an image of the child on his feed, he wrote, “Thank you 2023 for the best gift. Happy New Year to all! May 2024 fulfill all your wishes. Blessings to all!”

Now in a revelation, he has expressed his sadness that he could spend only two months with his son as he had to concentrate on his training for the Canelo fight. He also got to spend barely a month with his child before the Ryder fight. After the fight, the father-son duo had a month together and then the fighter left for camp once again. Today, as he prepares for his fight in Los Angeles, California, the child and his wife remain back home.
In the PBC Gloves Off video, he noted, “Being in camp is difficult. The thing I miss most is being with my family. Being with my son. Seeing him every day. He is five months old and I’ve seen him only two months of his life. I’m very excited to be a dad. Honestly, that’s the only thing that motivates me.” In the video, the fighter has a heartwarming moment talking to the child on a video call, asking him about what he is up to.
