Gervonta Davis took time off from his hectic training schedule for a noble cause yesterday. The star boxer, one of the ‘faces of boxing,’ remains connected to his roots in Baltimore. He is already involved in quite a lot of philanthropic work. Adding to the list, it seems he has decided to give the residential block in the West Baltimore area, where he grew up, a facelift.

The city officials reportedly shared the details over a press conference. Davis’ longtime trainer and cut-man, Kenny Ellis, shared a clip of Baltimore City Council President Nick Mosby standing alongside the boxer. Handing over what looked like a certificate of acknowledgment, the City Council President could be heard saying, “First day, in December, the year two thousand and twenty-three, signed by myself, President of Council, Nick Mosby.” The two then shook hands and hugged. Gervonta Davis thanked him.

Kenny Ellis wrote, “Gervonta “tank” Davis came back to his city and brought his whole block; let the construction begin.” While over two thousand followers have already given their likes to the post, comments are still flowing in.

This follower, for instance, lauded not only Gervonta Davis but also both of his trainers, coach Calvin Ford and Kenny Ellis. The duo has stood like a rock by ‘Tank’s side since he was a kid. The follower said, “Congrats to Tank, but also the coaches that have been by his side since he was a child!! @coachkennyellis and @coachcalvinford are legends in Baltimore!

Another follower, who addressed Davis as a nephew, also seemed happy. They mentioned how he is back to where it all started—Woodyear Street. “Okay, nephew!! That’s right. Where it all started! Woodyear Street,” they said.

Then another proud Baltimorean, Young Goldie, though he didn’t share any words, lauded the lightweight champion’s move through emoticons. The rapper appreciated what a fellow Baltimorean was doing for the residents.

While one user took their cap off to Gervonta Davis’ initiative with a “salute,” another found it simply out of the world: “Yes.

There were quite a few reactions on X/Twitter as well.

A user challenged everyone if they could name another boxer who’s into such activities without showing off.

Then another follower also added that everyone will finally get to understand why Davis is one of the greatest boxers. We grow only when we help others, they said.

An article in The Baltimore Banner mentioned that City Council President Nick Mosby said, “Tank, when he goes around the world, he literally carries the city of Baltimore on his back. For you to come back, invest in your hometown, invest in your community, and invest in your  block—i is truly, truly special.

However, what does the charitable project he is currently invested in entail?

Let’s start from the beginning

Per the available news, Gervonta Davis’ GTD Development would secure nine properties. Then they will refurbish those for low- and middle-income housing. He reportedly said, “I definitely want to thank everybody that was included and helped us make this happen. I feel as though when I was coming up, we didn’t have somebody to be hands-on with us.” It seems the project, following the world champion’s endowment, will commence with an untenanted building at 1542 North Woodyear Street.

The Baltimore-born southpaw has yet to return to the ring after his outstanding win over Ryan Garcia in April of this year. As of now, he and his team are engaged in a bitter online battle with Devin Haney and his team over a fight talk and subsequent offer, claims-counter claims, and allegations.
