Most boxing fans were looking forward to Badou Jack taking over Canelo Alvarez. However, recent developments suggested that the bout will no longer be happening. Instead, Jack will be going up the weight class to fight Polish fighter, Lukasz Rozanski. The fight is already creating noise given that the two fighters are not going ahead with much-awaited older bouts.
Swedish fighter, Jack has not fared that great in his bouts lately but did well in his exciting bout against Ilunga Makabu. He went on to secure a third world title in as many divisions in a 12th-round knockout in the co-main of Paul-Fury. Rozanski on the other hand gave Alen Babic his career’s first defeat through a technical knockdown in South Africa.

WBC Bridgerweight champion Lukasz Rozanski (15-0) will be entering the ring against Cruiserweight king Badou Jack (28-3-3) sometime in the late fall this year. The two will battle it out in Saudi Arabia. Badou Jack was a part of the conversations leading to who would be Canelo Alvarez’s next opponent. However, ‘The Ripper’ excused himself from the fight as he would have to drop down to 180 pounds and grapple with a rehydration clause. The clause limits a fighter as to how much he can put on once weighed in. He spoke about the same in a tweet.
Badou Jack had tweeted, “I won’t be fighting Canelo next. They said the weight difference is too much, they wanted to drain the old man and fight me 20 lbs UNDER the cruiser weight limit for the title. Plus a rehydration clause. Canelo let’s give the fans what they want to see and fight David Benavidez.”

Meanwhile, Rozanski was asked by the WBC to fight his mandatory challenger Kevin Lerena to secure the Bridgerweight title. The sanctioning body granted the two with a free negotiation period before sanctioning a purse bid. However, given Rozanski’s bout with Badou Jack which will probably happen before November 30, Lerena has agreed to a step-aside fee. The agreement also says that whoever emerges as the winner in the fall fight will later take on Lerena.
‘The Ripper’ Badou from Sweden now based in Dubai has fought his last four bouts in the Middle East. Meanwhile, Lukasz has never fought outside of his home country, Poland. This fight will see Jack’s first title defense. Is it going to be a nail-biting bout or one that is pretty easy to predict? Will Badou be successful in defending his title or will it fall to Jack? Watch this space as we bring you more developments soon.
