Ivan Sylve, a Long Beach, California resident, always wanted to be a boxer. Nevertheless, his goal was cut short in 2008 due to a detached retina. Then he decided to nurture his son Ashton into becoming a boxer. He trained him and shared one of his training videos, which caught the attention of boxing great Floyd Mayweather Jr. Later, the father and son duo received an invitation to Mayweather’s camp when Mayweather was preparing for his fight with Miguel Cotto. The same young kid will now be seen on the undercard of the Jake Paul vs. Mike Perry fight on July 20th.
Ashton Sylve is slated to go up against a 16-0 boxer from Ontario, Canada, Lucas Bahdi. The bout is set to take place at the Amalie Arena in Tampa. Ahead of the clash, check out Sylve’s background and how he has the potential to be an incredible fighter in the near future.

Ashton laced his first pair of boxing gloves when he was 6 years old. He grew up in Long Beach, California, where he trained in his father’s gym, Jackrabbit Boxing. By the time he was 15, he was already an 8-time USA national champion. Just the next year, the young boxer started his professional boxing journey. Back in the day, when Ashton was a kid, his father would frequently arrange for neighborhood football, basketball, and boxing matches. The 20-year-old boxer claimed that although basketball was his first love, he was compelled to choose a career after realizing how good he was in boxing.

The orthodox boxer has fought in more than 100 amateur fights, even winning two international titles. He earned the nickname ‘H2O’ because of his fluid style inside the ring. Nine of his 11 professional boxing victories to date have been via knockout. Sylve is noted for his potent body shots and possesses excellent an intimate understanding of the ring.
Among the current generations of young boxers, the Long Beach native is one of the most promising competitors. Without wasting much time, Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions signed Sylve in 2022. Ivan Sylve, Ashton’s father, deserves the credit for instilling the values of hard work and discipline in his son as well as planting the seed for a future in boxing. Since his “dad was in prison,” Ivan had a difficult upbringing and remembers having “a chip on the shoulder” at all times. But boxing made him humble. So he tries to help people who don’t have the right people around them with his gym, Jackrabbit Boxing. Ivan Sylve revealed, “I got a former gang member not in the gangs because he boxes. We’ve got a lot of talent in the gym now too.”

Ashton’s mother Keyonnie M. Sylve is a makeup artist and has been one of the biggest supporters in the young boxer’s life. His Instagram has numerous posts where he is seen spending time with his mom. Remarkably, the 20-year-old has a family with some of the biggest names in sports and the entertainment world.

Renowned rapper Snoop Dogg refers to him as his nephew. Having well-liked people by your side is of course a cherry on the top. In addition, he has another popular uncle named Willie McGinest who was once a linebacker in the NFL. Uncle Willie once mentioned a quality about Ashton and said, “Ashton has a killer instinct. He’s so humble and quiet, but once he gets in the ring he flips that switch. I was talking to Mike Tyson the other day about that mentality. When you’re in the arena, or in the cage with tigers, you have to become something different in order to survive.”
