Canelo Alvarez and Jermell Charlo will be entering the ring against each other on September 30. Canelo will face Jermell, the undisputed Middleweight champion. The match is crucial to note in boxing circles, as Charlo will be going up two classes to face Canelo. The fight comes in the wake of Alvarez signing a three-match deal with PBC and Showtime. A professional boxer since 2005, the Mexican fighter has defeated many of the acclaimed boxers in the ring.

The four-division champion, Canelo has won over Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto, and Gennady Golovkin. However, in May 2022, he was unable to win the light Heavyweight for the second time owing to his loss against Dmitry Bivol. However, as his bout against Jermell Charlo is secured, the two fighters are doing all they can to win. It is much more than just a fight for them. It is symbolic of something bigger, probably more for Jermell.

In a recent post on Instagram, ‘Iron Man’ Charlo revealed that this match is much beyond boxing for him. Understandably so. Perhaps, the most omnipotent match of his career, his bout against Canelo will be the talk of the town for a while now. Jermell said the bout is deeper than boxing. This time it is about, “LEGACY. GREATNESS. MY TIME. I WONT BE DENIED.” Earlier, the Charlo brother had impressed social media by posting a picture of him going up the weights for his next bout.

An unexpected clash of the undisputed: Jermell Charlo vs Canelo Alvarez

After his wrist surgery, Canelo Alvarez went against John Ryder in May this year. Expectations were ablaze that he might fight Bivol in a rematch, Badou Jack, and Jermall. Yes, it was supposed to be Jermall Charlo. However, he had to excuse himself citing personal reasons. Instead of the Middleweight titleholder, his twin brother, Jermell Charlo signed a deal to fight Canelo Alvarez at the 168 weight class. Here is the thing, Jermell last fought at the 154 pounds class.

However, this raises eyebrows about the mandatory challenge Jermell had to undertake against Tim Tszyu. The WBO had mandated a fight between Jermell Charlo and Tim Tszyu as the former would defend his Super Welterweight title. The fight was meant to happen before September 30. The outcomes are quite predictable. Since Charlo is moving up two divisions, he will probably not come down to the Welterweight class. Or if the WBO strips him of his title, Tszyu becomes the sole holder of it and will need to fight another fighter at a later stage to secure the title.
