Devin Haneys return turns out to be as messy as his break. A few days ago, reports emerged that the former WBC super lightweight champion will return to the ring in March 2025 against an unnamed opponent. Haney himself later confirmed the news. Fans were surprised as many thought ‘The Dream’ would accept Teofimo Lopez‘s challenge, however according to reports, names like Adrien Broner, Tevin Farmer, and Jamaine Ortiz were being discussed.

According to sources, a few weeks ago, Teofimo Lopez’s offer to Devin Haney was $2.4 million with a 55-45 split in the favor of the Brooklyn native. However, the 31-0 fighter outrightly rejected Lopez’s offer, which resulted in the latter going on a tear on social media. When Haney announced his return a few days ago, Lopez called Haney, “W/ Teofimo! YOU PUNK B***H,” claiming that the former undisputed lightweight champion is scared. But the San Francisco native outrightly rejected Lopez’s offer, sending the latter a strongly worded message on social media.

Teofimo Lopez’s Offer: Not Real Money

On Sunday, Haney fired back at Lopez, criticizing his offer. Haney was not going to take the insult silently and took to his ‘X’ to fire back at the 27-year-old. He responded on Lopez’s post and wrote, “U talk bout black ppl but need a black person for a payday b***h a** boi.. stay off them pills u love so much. & u know exactly what i’m talking bout too,” referring to the racist remarks Lopez made against Terence Crawford not so long ago.

He further wrote in a subsequent post, “Teo got the nerve to try offer somebody something but he out here begging.. I told that n***a he gone fight for peanuts long as he with bob! I’m making real MONEY,” claiming that he would never fight for such a low amount that Lopez’s promoter Bob Arum was offering. According to Haney, he could easily find a bigger payday against a different opponent. But is that the case?

‘The Dream’s stock has fallen significantly since his match against Ryan Garcia. That match showed everyone in 140, Haney’s weakness, and everyone wants to exploit it and the split suggested by Lopez is further proof of that. Furthermore, this has made finding an opponent rather tricky for ‘The Dream.’

What’s your perspective on:

Is Devin Haney dodging Teofimo Lopez, or is he just waiting for a bigger payday?

Devin Haney’s opponent still undecided

Ever since BLK Prime announced their partnership with The Dream for his comeback fight, fans had their reservation regarding the streaming platform and its reach. Glaser took to his ‘X’ and wrote, “Remember when the Number 1 fighter on the Planet fought on BLK Prime. Yes Terence Crawford fought on BLK Prime vs David Avanesyan. If it was good for Crawford, it’ll be good for Devin Haney! Take that,” referring to the time when Crawford signed a one-match deal with BLK Prime to defend his title against David Avanesyan in Omaha.

It was a massive signing and completely shocked the boxing world. However, fans were suspicious as BLK Prime has not been active since that Terence Crawford fight. But in contrast to this belief, the streaming platform has been consistently involved in boxing events. Furthermore, Crawford reportedly earned a massive payout of $10 million for the fight and if Devin Haney is going to earn a similar amount, there is no reason to reject the offer.

The post gave the fans a chance to ask questions to Glaser regarding the 31-0 boxer’s comeback. One fan dropped the names of Adrien Broner and Blair Cobbs, asking whether any of these rumored names were confirmed. After all, almost every fan would love to see these fights.

However, all the hopes were shattered when Glaser replied, “Neither guy,” claiming that the search was still ongoing. This begs the question, of whether Devin Haney is going to take it easy for his comeback fight. If that is the case, he might earn significantly less for his comeback fight. Something which he does not want.
