Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois is making history at Wembley Stadium. The iconic stadium, which has seen many iconic soccer matches, artists, and combat sports athletes sway the fans, will bear witness to another memorable night. While the event is underway and pulling fans across the globe to tune in, it also attracted eyes for an odd reason—getting a fact wrong about the stadium and ‘AJ’.
Joshua, 34, shares a special connection with Wembley Stadium. In all the 3 bouts that he fought there, he never went the distance and left the arena with devastating KO wins. The last of it came against Alexander Povetkin in 2018 when the British boxer racked up a record of 22-0. However, the commentators for Joshua vs. Dubois have mistakenly labeled his last fight at Wembley Stadium as the one against Kubrat Pulev, which happened in 2020.
While the outcome was the same—an early stoppage—the fight actually took place at Wembley Arena, a much smaller location than the Wembley Stadium. When the commentators pressed the incorrect fact of Joshua fighting against Pulev for the second time at Wembley Stadium—Rick Glaser took the duty himself to correct the broadcasting error and better inform the fans.

Glaser turned to his X handle and wrote, “For second time on broadcast has been mentioned that AJ fought Pulev at Wembley Stadium. In fact, he faced Pulev across the street at the vastly smaller Wembley Arena not the stadium.”

Notably, the Joshua vs. Dubois event is set to break the biggest crowd pullout at the stadium with a record 96,000 attendance, surpassing Tyson Fury vs. Dillian Whyte’s number of 94,000. But it seems ‘The Ggypsy King’ is not impressed with the numbers and the grand event pulled by HE Turki Alalshikh and is not bothered by its outcome.

In a conversation with IFL TV, Fury reiterated how his focus was still on the rematch with Oleksandr Usyk in December. In addition, the former WBC champion specified the outcome didn’t affect him. He declared, “Unless it’s involving me, I don’t care who wins. I’ve got my own fight with [Oleksandr] Usyk to deal with at the end of December, and a Christmas time. So that’s what I’m thinking about. I’m not thinking about who wins out of these two divies. Don’t really matter who wins out of these two. None of my business.”

Interestingly, the winner of Joshua vs. Dubois will punch his ticket to face the winner of Usyk vs. Fury, and the clash will have all the heavyweight marbles on the lines next. While the timeline of the supposed showdown is not clear, the fans could have another historic all-British showdown if Usyk exacts his revenge against Usyk.
