Former Heavyweight champ Tyson Fury may have never found himself in such a situation—down with 2 consecutive losses and stranded at a point where nothing about his boxing career makes sense. The fans have started to float retirement as an option to ‘The Gypsy King’. But if he still decides to stick around, which most likely will and should, a fight with Anthony Joshua would probably make sense. And I’m sure the fans and pros would agree.

Fury, 36, lost his rematch against now Undisputed Heavyweight champ Oleksandr Usyk on December 21, and he has been tight-lipped about his plans ever since. Joshua, 35, has been sailing on a similar boat since losing to Daniel Dubois, yet both former champs remain arena-selling names. So, the fans have speculated an all-British showdown between them somewhere in 2025. World-class boxer Antonio Tarver, known for playing Mason ‘The Line’ Dixon in Rocky Balboa (2006) has broken down this hypothetical fight and also gave his verdict on the same.

Tarver, 56, pointed out the possible effect the two consecutive losses would have had on ‘The Gypsy King’. He said, “Who would be the winner in a fight between Tyson Fury and AJ? Both of these guys have had their ups and downs so far. You know, with Tyson Fury, you know, facing defeat for the second time. You know, that’s hard to accept when you’ve been, you know, on top of the game so long.”

While talking about how Fury would have to fight his next opponent knowing he is not the king of the division anymore, Tarver continued to shed light on what the fans could expect from the hypothetical Fury vs. Joshua fight. He added, “You know, it’s really mind-boggling, man, when you look in the mirror and you know you’re not that same undefeated King no more, but you know, I mean a legendary, I believe, Hall of Fame career nonetheless, and a Tyson Fury-AJ fight will definitely be a hit in the UK. So there you have it. Man.”

Did you know that the two British heavyweights had been booked to fight back in 2020 when they held all the marbles between them? Well, that fight didn’t materialize. But many think, 5 years later, this could be a possibility. However, Frank Warren cautioned the fans, as the fight hinged on one call.

Will Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua ever happen?

What’s your perspective on:

Can Tyson Fury bounce back, or is Anthony Joshua the new king of British boxing?

Warren, 72, in a conversation with The Sun, detailed how the Fury-Joshua fight depended on the former’s will. The Queensberry lynchpin laid out that the fight had to be made out by the Manchester native, as no one was sure whether he wanted to do the fight.

The British promoter said, “It’s what people will want to watch. The Fury-Joshua fight is a great fight and if it happens, it will be a mega fight. It will be brilliant. But it will only happen if Tyson wants to do it, and that’s a big if. And if he doesn’t want to do it, then so be it.” It remains to be seen whether the fight will be made in 2025 or not.
