It has been 8-months since the controversial fight between Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn. Garcia defeated the former WBC super lightweight champion via the majority decision to secure an emphatic victory. However, the New York State Athletic Commission later overturned the fight to a no-contest as Garcia tested positive for Ostarine and Devin Haney got his undefeated record reinstated.
Nevertheless, the fact that it was a humbling experience for Devin Haney remains. Garcia dropped the former undisputed lightweight champion three times during the bout. Furthermore, rumors of the San Francisco native suffering a broken jaw also went viral after the match. Haney outright declined the rumors, claiming that he was fine and was proud of his performance.
He took to his ‘X’ and wrote, “I have no broken anything btw way like i said im Ok,” assuring the fans that he would be back. However, it has been 8-months and we have not seen Haney back in action. Which begs the question, is Devin Haney really fine? Well, we might have finally gotten some clarity on the situation from Gervonta Davis’ trainer Kenny Ellis, who rumors suggest was brought in as a trainer after The Dream suffered the beating at the hands of Ryan Garcia. However, the revelation from Ellis was quickly followed by outrage from Devin’s father, Bill Haney.

Is Coach Kenny Ellis switching sides again?
Even though Devin Haney boasts an undefeated record, he was surely low on confidence after facing Ryan Garcia. That is why, a few months after the match, he joined hands with Gervonta Davis’ co-trainer Kenny Ellis. It was an unlikely alliance but was justified, as ‘The Dream’ needed a change in his support team.
However, almost five months after this new partnership started, Ellis gave a new update regarding Devin Haney’s physical health in a rather cryptic message. He took to his Instagram story and wrote, “A friend of mine got his jaw broken once during a boxing match. He wanted to get back in the gym as soon as possible, but do to the severity of the fracture he had to take a year off before any full contact. But in some cases you can get back to full contact in two of three months depending on the fracture and where the fracture is located on the jaw.”
While the message did not mention Devin Haney specifically, the next story made it look like he was taking shots at Haney. “Now go back and read it one more time and let it sink in,” noted Ellis. We have not seen ‘The Dream’ in action since the fight and the reports suggesting a broken jaw were rampant at the time.
Furthermore, the Haneys have expressed their desire to get back into the ring. However, there has been no confirmation from either the father or the son regarding the reason for his inactivity. The Instagram story quickly made it onto Twitter where everyone critical of Devin Haney quickly reshared it. One of whom was an internet boxing commentator and known Devin Haney-critic Ray Jackson.

Bill Haney on the offense for Devin Haney
Bill Haney took to his ‘X’ and wrote, “Ray Jackson is the wh*** nobody claimed in 2024. Good luck in 2025 tramp‼️🚀,” calling out Jackson and his antics. That is when one fan tried to test Haney Sr’s patience by mockingly commenting on his post. The fan ironically asked about the 31-0 boxer’s broken jaw. The comment angered Bill Haney, who shot back, “Devin got punched in the jaw now why your jaws hurting again? 🧐👎🏽.”

Considering the story by Kenny Ellis and this break of character by Bill Haney, we can safely predict that the 26-year-old will be potentially out of action for a few more months. This revelation has put him in a spot where he would have to challenge Ryan Garcia once again to prove his mettle. But considering how he has been burning every single bridge with Garcia since April, it is hard to think if we will ever get that rematch. Let us know your thoughts down below.
