Anderson Silva is one of MMA’s most recognizable fighters. The former middleweight champion of the world is arguably the greatest UFC fighter in history. However, at 45, the Brazilian is still chasing new challenges and will enter the boxing ring.

Silva will take on Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in his first boxing fight. The two fighters have agreed to a PPV bout on June 19. However, before he enters the boxing ring for the first time, ‘The Spider’ is already looking ahead to his next fight and gave an update on the potential Roy Jones Jr. contest.

The 34-11 MMA fighter spoke at the press conference and revealed his desire to face Roy Jones Jr. ‘The Spider’ said, “Yea, absolutely, you know. Because, I talked… I talked about a fight with Mr. Roy Jones Jr. for many, many years ago, you know. When I start fighting in UFC. And I think, now it’s come close to this… close completely to…. Reality, you know.”

This comment from Silva showed how close the pair are to agreeing to a fight deal. ‘Captain Hook’ has been on the lookout for an opponent ever since his exhibition against Mike Tyson, and Anderson Silva would fit the bill.

However, the former UFC great then reiterated, “Let’s go see. My focus now is just for this fight right now and let’s go see the future, you know.”

How would Anderson Silva do against Roy Jones Jr.?

These comments from Silva showed that the links to a boxing fight against Jones Jr. had value. Moreover, his statements showed that even though they couldn’t make it happen, it could still materialize in the future. But how would Silva do in a boxing fight against Roy Jones Jr.?

The two fighters had very similar styles in their respective sports. Like Jones Jr., Silva exhibited incredible head movement and often show-boated in the ring. Moreover, just like many of Jones Jr.’s victories, Silva also won many of his fights effortlessly. Therefore, if they meet, it would undoubtedly be an exciting bout.

Given that ‘The Spider’ fought competitively till 2020, he would have the edge over Jones Jr. Furthermore, his size and reach would also play a big part in the bout. Either way, it would be a close fight and an entertaining event.
