On September 30, Jermell Charlo will move up in the division and challenge Canelo Alvarez. This fight came as a surprise to many in the boxing world given their weight disparity. Many consider the junior middleweight champion to be undersized. Not to mention, Charlo has been inactive in recent years compared to the 33-year-old. Subsequently, he is a betting underdog going into the fight.

However, in a recent turn of events, Amir Khan weighs in on this match-up. Despite the odds stacked against, ‘Iron Man,’ Khan does not disregard the possibility of an upset. What makes him have such an opinion? Let’s find out.

Not only is Khan a former champion, but he also faced Alvarez in their massive showdown back in 2016. Needless to say, his acumen of the ‘Sweet Science,’ and assessment of Alvarez is relevant. In an interview with Fight Hub.TV, Khan acknowledged Alvarez having a size advantage but felt that it bears a mention he is no longer in his prime.

He stated, “Charlo and Canelo. Canelo is too strong, but then again, looking at Canelo’s last few fights, you can see that he is ageing a little bit. He is been getting caught a lot more he got beat by Bivol. Canelo still has theat X factor that he’s always had.”

Khan also gave Charlo credit for being a young and competent boxer. He stated, “You got Charlo there who is an amazing fighter and you know look good in all his fights and strong as well.” He adds, “He has decent and good boxing skills.” It is safe to say that Khan does not disregard Charlo being the victor unlike many in the boxing realm. Although he gave Charlo his credit and was critical of, ‘Saul.’ The retired boxer favored Alvarez more to give a decisive prediction. In the same interview, he stated, “I do lean more towards, Canelo winning that fight.”  In addition, he gave Charlo a game plan to secure a victory. He adds, “Charlo could have, if he stays away from big shots, boxes him and stays busy. I think if Charlo stays busy in that fight, he wins that fight.”
