Amanda Serrano, the Featherweight world champion, has chosen to relinquish her WBC title following the organization’s refusal to approve 12 three-minute round contests. Despite successfully defending her WBA, WBO, and IBF titles against Danila Ramos in October, Serrano expressed dissatisfaction with the WBC’s reluctance to sanction longer bouts, typically held over 10 two-minute rounds in women’s boxing.

In a statement on Instagram, the 35-year-old boxer from Puerto Rico explained her decision, citing the WBC’s failure to bring about equality in the sport, resulting in her voluntary relinquishment of their title. Serrano has also called out the organization for a mismatch during a fight back in 2020.

Amanda Serrano calls out a WBC matchup

After renouncing for the cause of equality in female boxing, Serrano posed a question to the WBC about an infamous boxing fight. So on the X app recently, a FOX NFL Sunday Editorial consultant spoke about a fight between Siniesa Estrada and Miranda Adkins. This was a complete mismatch and Adkins was knocked out in just 7 seconds after the fight began.

So, Amanda Serrano used the tweet of Ortega to pose a necessary question to the WBC. She wrote, “How would @WBCBoxing @wbcmoro view this tweet & what’s the explanation to it?” The former tweet questioned the WBC’s scientific research and study when it comes to women’s boxing. This year, over 20 current and former women boxers, including Amanda Serrano, collectively advocated for the allowance of three-minute rounds in their fights.

In a display of the desire for this change, Serrano, along with her opponent Danila Ramos, engaged in a full 36-minute bout, with Serrano emerging victorious by winning all 12 rounds. However, they’ve refused to do so again and Serrano is fighting back. On the other hand, WBC has already taken full responsibility for the Estrada-Adkins fight and has assured the fans that they won’t be making such a mistake again.

WBC accepts responsibility for its past mistake

California State Athletic Commission executive officer Andy Foster addressed all of the criticism that they faced for sanctioning a fight between the fighters that have such a huge age gap. Everybody wondered how a 42-year-old mother with a dubious boxing history found herself inside the ring against a world-class boxer.

Well, Foster said, “On paper, hindsight is 20-20 for everybody. Now that we know the outcome, I think it’s fair to criticize me for approving that because I’m critical of myself. I kinda blew this one.” So, Foster didn’t hide behind all the hatred and accepted everything with his chin up and understood the consequences very well.
