The realm of boxing is not alien to age-old rivalries that stick on even after a fight has taken its course. One such animosity dates back to almost 2007. Yes, it is the infamous rivalry between Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Both fighters in their prime went against each other in the ring, but that did not end the raging hostility between the two. More than 15 years later, the two legendary fighters still continue to take digs against each other. And caught in this storm this time is Ryan Garcia.

Well, not exactly caught in the storm but yes definitely a part of this entire dynamic as it evolves. Further, as Garcia navigates his tumultuous relationship with his promoter, De La Hoya, he also has to balance it out with the good relationship he has with Mayweather. But these are two distinct worlds that the fighter engages in. However, imagine when these worlds collide. The noise? Louder than ever!

The boxer-turned-promoter is known for his stealthy way of going at someone he does not see eye-to-eye with. ‘Golden Boy’ De La Hoya has on multiple occasions demonstrated this knack of his against ‘Pretty Boy’ Mayweather. Either as an instigation or a defense, both of these legends in the boxing realm have taken some jabs at each other. Now, in yet another such blow, ‘Golden Boy’ took an indirect dig at his age-old rival by calling him a fighter whom he once defeated.

Commenting on one of the posts made by Garcia on his Instagram, he said, “Good to see you with the guy I beat.” 

Featured in the post were Mayweather and Adin Ross posing with Garcia in the gym. The remarks come amidst De La Hoya dragging Garcia to the courts in order to get the latter to fulfill his contract signed with his promotions company.

Pretty Boy’s Take on Gracia vs. Golden Boy

Boxing promoter Oscar De La Hoya has filed a lawsuit against his boxer as the latter refused to fulfill his contract with Golden Boy Promotions. However, despite the ongoing legal tussle, the promoter made an audacious claim of getting his fighter a befitting opponent. Amidst these tumultuous developments, ‘Money’ Mayweather has jumped in to say what he thinks of the situation.

Talking about what he felt about De La Hoya’s lawsuit against Garcia, Money said, “I could really say something negative, I could really say something positive. But when it’s all said and done, Oscar De La Hoya is not my promoter.” Taking a further neutral standpoint on this situation, he said, He was once an opponent of mine, and we all approach situations in a different way.”

The rift between Mayweather and De La Hoya dates back to May 5th, 2007, when the two entered the ring against each other. The Las Vegas saw Golden Boy come with everything he had in his power to defeat Money. However, as the fight progressed, the latter’s superior boxing skills shone through.
