There’s a rampaging ‘Tank’ searching for a kill. And from what it appears, it has a target in the crosshairs. It didn’t take much to fire the first parting shot. Professionally, the year had been fantastic for Gervonta Davis. After a successful title defense in January, the Baltimorean boxer scored one of the most decisive victories of recent times against Ryan Garcia in April. However, it is on the personal front that he has had to suffer a few setbacks.

On July 14th, Davis came out of jail after serving 44 days of the 90-day house arrest sentence he received for the 2020 road accident case. Amidst streams of talks on match-ups, he has yet to make a return to the ring. However, that hasn’t prevented the southpaw from taking now-and-then digs. For instance, he went after renowned trainer Robert Garcia and his charge, Raymond Muratalla, who recently scored a knockout victory over Diego Torres Nunez. But for reasons still not clear, the latest developments came when the world champion shared his apprehensions over how a few legal restrictions could impact training.

An upcoming foe, the ‘Tank’?

Soon after Muratalla became the North American Boxing Federation Lightweight Champion as well as the WBO Global Lightweight Champion, Robert Garcia took to his X account and said how everyone has started not to sing what he and his team have been witnessing for some time in the gym. Raymond Muratalla is now ready for anyone in the Lightweight division. 16 of Muratalla’s 19 victories came through knockouts. No wonder ‘Danger’ has emerged as one of the foremost prospects in the Lightweight division to reckon with.

FightHype uploaded a short clip today. It showed screenshots of Robert Garcia’s tweets. But it was followed by a response from Gervonta Davis as well. The WBA Lightweight champion wrote, “On my momma, that n**a a** @GarciaBoxing.

Could the shade-throwing be inferred as an attempt to gradually make a move for the next match-up?

Gervonta Davis: between rumors and reality

It should be noted that since the Garcia fight followed by the jail term, ‘Tank’s name has come up against the likes of Terence Crawford, unified Lightweight champion Devin Haney, and Shakur Stevenson. However, barring the update on the Isaac Cruz rematch, most thus appear as passing talks only. Davis recently shared clips of him getting back in the gym and training with fans. But from what it seems and given the time left in the year, in all likelihood, a return from one of the faces of boxing could be expected by the early months of next year only. Fans will have to wait until such time to see their icon back in the ring.
