Amanda Serrano is one of the few fighters who has ventured into multiple realms of martial arts. When it comes to professional boxing, Serrano so far holds an overwhelming record of 46 wins, only 2 losses, and just 1 draw. In addition, 30, which is about 75% of her victories, came via knockouts. However, ‘The Real Deal’ is multifaceted, and over the years, she has built herself accordingly to take part in a wide range of games.

Apart from boxing and wrestling, Serrano has also tried her hands at mixed martial arts. When the women’s boxing division went stagnant, Serrano even considered moving into mixed martial arts. But is that decision based on her MMA record? Let’s see how she fared in the MMA cage.

Serrano made her debut in professional MMA in 2018. Her first opponent was Corina Herrera, from the flyweight division. That bout, held under the banner of Combate Americas, ended in a majority draw.

After about six months, Serrano proceeded to fight Erendira Ordonez, at Combate Americas – Mexico vs. USA. Therein, ‘The Real Deal’ revealed her superior grappling game as she submitted Ordonez with a rear naked choke within the very first round. Things might have turned out to be different had Ordonez defended herself for 37 more seconds. But Serrano was a bit too strong.

The Puerto Rican fighter’s final mixed martial arts venture was in 2021, where she fought Valentina Garcia at iKon Fighting Federation 7. Needless to say, Serrano didn’t fail to impress the crowd, as she executed a perfect guillotine choke and submitted Garcia within the first minute of the first round.

She has yet to fight in another MMA bout. As of now, in MMA, she holds a professional record of 2 wins, 0 losses, and 1 draw. Both of her wins in MMA have come from submission, and it has been a little over three years since she has taken part in mixed martial arts.

In MMA, Serrano is yet to receive a defeat. Her only loss in combat sports comes from Frida Wallberg, whom she fought in 2012 at Cloetta Center, Linköping, Sweden. But did you know that he once decided to take retirement from the squared ring and fight in the cage?

Amanda Serrano almost retired from boxing to pursue MMA

Winning multiple titles in the realm of boxing, and with women’s boxing moving ever so slowly, Serrano thought of switching to MMA back in 2016. It was a time when she was yet to face Yazmin Rivas. Serrano quoted in an interview with RingTV.com, “Early last year, I thought about it. I started doing a lot of kicks, I started training for it because there was no change in female boxing.”

However, she got the chance to fight Rivas at Barclays Center. It was indeed the very first women’s boxing bout that appeared on national TV in the decade. ‘The Real Deal’ continued, “I said by the end of this year (2016) if nothing happens, then definitely nothing will ever happen for female boxing. I love boxing; it’s my love but I have to pay my bills and now they’re giving some recognition to the women, so why not (stick with it?).”
