Amanda Serrano's payday—Is she finally getting the recognition she deserves in women's boxing?

Women’s boxing icon Amanda Serrano is taking what many think is a tune-up fight. The Puerto Rican will face up-and-coming 135-pounder Stevie Morgan in the co-main event of the Jake Paul vs. Mike Perry boxing match on July 20. Having been one-half of the most successful women’s boxing match ever against Katie Taylor two years ago at the iconic Madison Square Garden, she is determined to notch up another win before their rematch.

The excitement and hype for Taylor-Serrano 2 is historic, given how action-filled and thrilling their first fight was. While Taylor won the fight via a split decision, the fight was closer than the scorecards suggested. But, for now, Serrano is focused on Morgan, and in this article, we take a look at how much both fighters are being paid for their co-main event bout.

Amanda Serrano was supposed to rematch Katie Taylor on July 20, when the main event was Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson. However, after Tyson pulled out because of an injury, set to fight Paul on November 15, their rematch was rescheduled to that date.

However, Serrano, who moved up three weight classes to fight Taylor, took this opportunity to face another promising fighter before their much-awaited upcoming rematch. And for facing Morgan at the Tampa, Florida event, Serrano will reportedly be paid $750,000 according to a report from the outlet ‘Sportyalaries.com’.

On the other hand, Morgan is coming into the fight, having knocked out her last six opponents in the first round. However, going up against the former seven-division champion, and living legend that is Amanda Serrano, it is no wonder that Morgan is the overwhelming underdog. For her seemingly uphill task, the American will reportedly get $300k.

It is unknown if either fighter will get a share of the pay-per-view profits from the fight. Even as Serrano prepares to get paid handsomely for women’s boxing standards, she has to vacate her IBF title.

Serrano vacates the IBF Featherweight title

Intent on facing Katie Taylor by the end of the year, Amanda Serrano has vacated her IBF title after a twenty-two-month reign. Since she plans to fight Morgan tonight, followed by Taylor four months from now, both at lightweight, it is unfeasible that the Puerto Rican boxing icon would cut down to defend her lightweight title and then move back up to 135 pounds to fight Taylor.

However, she has not given up on the featherweight title by any means and has promised she will reclaim it once she’s done with the Irishwoman in November. “[Amanda] looks forward to becoming the IBF champion again at junior welterweight and once again proudly representing the IBF. She also looks forward to eventually returning to featherweight and recapturing her championship,” a statement from Serrano’s representatives said.

It makes perfect sense for her to do so. There is no reason to jeopardize her Katie Taylor rematch, which is likely to be bigger in every sense than their previous fight by cutting and regaining so much weight in such short a period.
