It’s true; the fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul remains the talk of the town. A bout between a boxing great and a YouTuber-turned-boxer, though visibly disparate, affords a full package with its intrigue. It is now a sanctioned match, but with specific rules. But is it good enough to satiate the thirst of boxing purists? Thankfully, the show at Arlington’s 80,000-seat AT&T Stadium has a blockbuster fight to offer. Nearly two years after they rocked the boxing world with their dazzling performances, Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor will face each other once again as the co-main fight of the Tyson-Paul clash.
However, if the world champions are to be believed, the rematch on July 20 would only be a much bigger and grander affair. Netflix will broadcast the match live to millions of homes around the world. So the prophecy for the high-stakes fight for Taylor’s undisputed title might as well come true!

After New York, the second kick-off presser of the show took place in Texas. Katie Taylor revealed how happy she was to fight on such a skyscraping card. For her, it’s a matter of great delight that a large audience and multitude of fans across the globe will be watching what the best of women’s boxing has to offer.

“To to be on this card is absolutely huge for women’s boxing, and I’m just so happy that the whole world will see the best of women’s boxing, and you’ll see women’s boxing is very, very best. This event is going to um influence so many young fighters and young girls, and that, to me, is just what is all about,” said the London Olympic gold medalist.
Amanda Serrano seemingly agreed with her Irish rival. She took to her X/Twitter handle and mentioned the respect she has for ‘KT’. She wrote, “I have the upmost respect for Katie. Just like myself, she wants to uplift the sport. Many only care about themselves, & we care about the sports growth. I guess this is why WE (Katie & I) are here. Biggest Card Ever & Biggest Purse Ever!”

Then she revealed how, during their first match at Madison Square Garden, they took home a million dollars each. So in the latest edition, they seem to have shattered that ceiling as well.
Legacy on the Roll
Several reports suggest that for the rematch, which might as well enter the record books as the richest boxing match for women, Katie Taylor’s purse stands in the neighborhood of $6 million. It comes off in stark contrast to the first fight two years ago. The collective earnings of Serrano and the Irish champion itself were around $2 million.
Otherwise billed as the ‘biggest women’s fight of all time’, ‘For History’ truly marked its presence in the pages of history. The Amanda Serrano-Katie Taylor I was the first women’s match to headline at New York’s celebrated Madison Square Garden. The match came about after the initial attempt to schedule it for 202 failed on account of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ten-round bout lived up to its hype. It turned out to be a nail-biting experience for the audience and hordes of fans, especially back home in Ireland and Puerto Rico. Critics hailed it. The fight eventually received the coveted ‘2022, Fight of the Year’ award, reportedly beating even the much-talked-about Dmitry Bivol–Canelo Alvarez fight that took place a few weeks later.

Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano may not be from the pioneering generation of Christy Martin or Laila Ali. However, no one can deny the commendable role they have played in taking women’s boxing to the next level. Their presence as role models has been truly inspiring, and nothing better evinces it than the increasing number of girls and women taking up the ‘art of pugilism’.
