Born Rivals‘ was the name given to the clash between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn. However, the bout, which was supposed to occur on October 8 last year, never took off. Conor Benn’s failure to clear drug tests derailed what many considered an epic fight between the sons of two of Great Britain’s most legendary boxers. Nevertheless, efforts are on to put the match on track by the early months of next year. As could be expected from a line-up of such generational proportions, fireworks between the two have already started.

Responding to Eubank Jr.’s parting shot, ‘The Destroyer’ laid out what he would do to him in the ring. Yesterday, while speaking to Matchroom Boxing, Benn explicitly detailed how he would go about stopping Eubank Jr. early and putting him on course for early retirement. ‘Next Gen’ didn’t waste time in launching a riposte. Benn, who had surrendered his boxing license with the BBBofC last year, returned to the ring in September on the Richardson Hitchins and Joe Zepeda card.

The Matchroom reporter asked Conor Benn for his views on decisively defeating Chris Eubank Jr. and moving on with his career. Nigel Benn‘s son responded, “I will dismantle him. I will ruin him. He gets absolutely destroyed…destroyed. There’s no comeback; there will be no comeback after he fights me. When I said when I beat him, I’ll put him into an early retirement, I [would] put him into retirement.

A few hours later, ‘New Gen’ posted his response. Hitting upon Benn’s banned substance case, Eubank Jr. mentioned that probably one of those items still lingers in his body. Consequently, they are playing around with his head.

Conor Benn seemed to have been waiting for such a post. Early in the morning today, he wrote back. Alluding to the reported rift between Eubank Jr. and his father, Chris Eubank, Benn said, “Keep that energy because you are going to be sprawled over the canvas when I knock you unconscious. Also, call senior; he’s now flogging the nephew because you sacked him, you w**ker.

Though long cleared by the WBC, Conor Benn was under provisional suspension from participating in boxing. Eventually, the National Anti-Doping Panel cleared his name sometime in July. The United Kingdom Anti-Doping (UKAD) and British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) are still contesting the body’s decision.

‘The Destroyer’s Comeback

Anyhow, he announced his comeback with a unanimous victory over Rodolfo Orozco on September 23 in Orlando, Florida’s Caribe Royale Orlando. Last year’s match with Chris Eubank Jr. would have taken place at a catchweight of 157 pounds. However, this time around, their square-off could take place at 160 pounds. While speaking with the Matchroom reporter about the current status of the negotiations, Benn spoke about agreeing with the deal. Additionally, he hardly cared about who got to walk first during the ring walk.
