Al Haymon‘s PBC was the talk of the town at the beginning of 2024, and fans expected a similar upturn in the fortunes of the promotion. Well, the promotion had two of the biggest stars in the boxing world, Gervonta Davis and Saul Alvarez, and a new lucrative deal with Amazon Prime in place. But did everything turn out the way the PBC wanted? Doubts are now being cast about this and it seems fighters might come to regret their contracts. Why so?

After three PPV events, headlined by Tim Tsyzu, Alvarez, and ‘Tank’ each, the numbers seem to be still under par. In addition, events held by PBC are fewer compared to the likes of Golden Boy Promotions, and so the scale of things is working against them. Let’s churn in some numbers, too. ‘Canelo’ Alvarez vs. Jaime Munguia did close to 550k PPV buys. This was definitely less compared to the hype and the caliber of the boxers. What’s more shocking was the recent Davis vs. Frank Martin event, which could only pull 200k PPV buys. Dwindling and shocking numbers, right? So, you might be wondering what is going on with the PBC fighters, who are not receiving a huge windfall.

If the veteran matchmaker, Rick Glaser, is to be believed, PBC fighters started to engage professionals to figure out where their “money” was. And they were in for a rude awakening. He turned to his X handle and wrote, “These #AlHaymon advised fighters are now starting to hire professionals to figure out where their money actually is.And when these exploratory investigations are concluded, these fighter’s will find out they were really Lambs that were led to financial slaughter. Stay turned. #Boxing”

No one had stirred the boxing community, as Al Haymon did in the last decade with PBC. While his reputation has taken a hit and the focus has shifted to Oscar De La Hoya‘s GBP and Saudi Arabia recently, he continues to garner major confidence among his boxers. Davis, 29, was all praise for the PBC lynchpin when asked to pick the best among all promoters.

Is Al Haymon’s PBC a sinking ship?

The WBA lightweight champion spoke highly of his promoter, and after drawing a parallel between the PBC and Saudi Arabia, he declared, “Al Haymon runs boxing. He looks out for the fighters, something these other promoters don’t do.” However, even he might be scratching his head with the low PPV numbers, despite being the PBC’s most popular face now.

It might be high time that the financials paint a clear picture, as each of PBC’s broadcasting and streaming partners has received a death knell. You add to the mix the exits of Terence Crawford and Alvarez, and the picture appears more gloomy. Is the PBC a sinking ship? No one knows. Do the fighters need to evaluate their contracts? Glaser, a boxing Hall of Famer, seemed to think so.
