Roberto Duran is suffering from a health complication and is currently admitted to a hospital. This is a major setback for boxing fans as the boxing legend is currently fighting for his life. Although there haven’t been many updates about his condition as of now, Duran’s family has requested the fans to pray for the legend’s well-being. Duran has achieved major feats in the sport of boxing. For that reason, he’s able to garner so much love and respect. What was so unique about his legendary status?

Erupting into the scene at a mere 16 years old in 1967, Duran carved his name in boxing history over a remarkable five-decade career. Duran’s journey wasn’t a typical one. He defied expectations, boxing professionally until he was 50 years old in 2001. But now, he’s in a battle for his own life, and his family has asked for help.

According to ESPN reporter Salvador Rodriguez, Duran is currently hospitalized after experiencing complications due to a complete atrioventricular block, a condition affecting the heart’s electrical signals.

The Duran family is awaiting further results and will share more information as it becomes available. They expressed their gratitude for the prayers and well wishes from fans and loved ones. They wrote in a statement, translated in English, “The Durán family reports that our champion suffered a health complication due to a Complete Atrioventricular “Complete AV Block”. We are awaiting results so we can later share more information about your health.

Furthermore, they also added, “We thank our family, friends, and all his followers for keeping him in their prayers.” This news comes as a shock to the boxing world. Duran’s health will be closely monitored in the coming days. Hopefully, the legend comes back home soon enough. And this won’t be the first time that Duran would be defying death, as he also made his exit out of the hospital in a wheelchair back in 2020.

Duran made it back home healthy and in good spirits after being infected by the coronavirus. At that time, the entire hospital staff had applauded the champion. Hopefully, he’ll repeat that same miracle again, and walk out of the hospital fully recovered.
