Ahead of Francis Ngannou Fight, Tyson Fury Expresses He Has No Problem in Welcoming Oleksandr Usyk to His Home

Boxing rivalries often seem real, as if the belligerents would take their grudges and bitterness to the grave. However, as it turns out, in most cases, it’s for appearance’s sake. At the end of the day, it’s a job that needs to be done, just like any other vocation. Tyson Fury awaits his turn to enter the ring opposite Francis Ngannou on Saturday. His hands are full. After a long wait, he would face Oleksandr Usyk by December or early next year.

Speaking to the media, he explained how his terms with the Ukrainian champion have come full circle—from vitriolic feuding to a stage where the duo are extending home invitations to each other. Why? As ‘The Gypsy King explained, it is all part of the job. It is about putting food on the table and spending time with the family.

Speaking to iFL TV, Tyson Fury shared his FaceTime discussion with Oleksandr Usyk. The unified champion’s team was also present. ‘The Gypsy King’ said, “…I even invited him to Morecambe after… after I beat him. He can come to Morecambe with his family cuz it’s summertime, and he said, oh well, you, it looks really nice. I said it’s where we live in Morecambe… Morecambe Front said you can come down here, bring your family, bring your wife and kids, and have a holiday after the fight, no problem.”

Oleksandr Usyk, in turn, told Fury to visit his place in Ukraine. Earlier, the latter explained that when push comes to shove, it all boils down to money-making. There are several boxers whose sole aim is to keep winning championship belts.

However, that’s an exercise in futility. As a ‘prize fighter,’ he even expressed a willingness to fight Ngannou or even Jon Jones in an Octagon, provided the ‘money was right.’ The reporter then asked him how the talks with Usyk went successfully this time.

Usyk’s U-turn

Fury replied that early in February or March, he had offered Usyk a 30% split for their fight. However, the latter refused and went after the title defense against Daniel Dubois, which barely fetched him any money. But probably after that bout, the Ukrainian learned his lesson, and his team re-initiated negotiations. Fury believes that the two consecutive victories over Anthony Joshua in 2021 and 2022 gave Usyk and his team the impression that they could seek any price.

However, as it turned out, the reality was far from their expectations. Hence, it seems lately they realized fighting Fury could be the final recourse to making a big payday compared to other match-ups. Oleksandr Usyk returned nearly a year later, on August 26, to defend his title from Daniel Dubois. While eager to take on Tyson Fury, he reportedly wanted to know when the bout with the WBC champion would take place. As per several accounts, he seems to be suffering from injuries and has sought at least 14 weeks for his camp. That way, he would be able to recover and then prepare for the fight.
