The hype around Terence Crawford vs. Canelo Alvarez is real, with the boxing world buzzing with anticipation. Fans from all corners of the globe are waiting for this epic showdown. The rumors, and predictions surrounding the fight continue to fuel the excitement, with experts and analysts weighing in on what could unfold in the ring.

And what’s clear is the fact that both fighters are at the peak of their careers. The 37-year-old had a dominating knockout victory over Errol Spence Jr. in July 2023, and a unanimous decision victory against Israel Madrimov in August 2024. On the other side, Canelo Alvarez held an impressive reign as the undisputed WBA, WBC, and WBO super-middleweight champion. Yet, despite the allure of this mega-fight, one question remains on everyone’s minds: who has the upper hand between Crawford and Canelo?

To answer that, Mike Tyson, the former heavyweight champion weighed in on the potential fight. While talking to Marca, Tyson gave his thoughts on the fight with his prediction not entirely being in favor of the smaller man, Crawford. In fact, Tyson believes ‘Bud’ Crawford might be biting off more than he can chew by moving up to face Canelo. In the It Is What It Is podcast, Tyson stated, “I don’t like that fight… too much weight (for Crawford).”

The former heavyweight champion of the world further added, “He had a close fight with the last guy (Madrimov). He fought because he was big and really awkward. He shouldn’t have even fought that guy.” However, Tyson isn’t the only man to voice his issue with the bout.

Terrence Crawford’s former opponent also thinks fighting Canelo is a bad idea

This viewpoint was echoed by Egidijus Kavaliauskas, who faced ‘Bud’ Crawford in December 2019. The 24-2 boxer with 19 KOs suffered a knockout loss where he was down in round seven, and twice in round nine at Madison Square Garden, New York. So, what does he think about the upcoming Canelo-Crawford showdown?

A renowned boxing page, @dantheboxingman posted a video on X.  In the clip, Egidijus Kavaliauskas was asked, “How does he (Terence Crawford) do against Canelo?” expressing his doubts, he stated, “I hope they don’t make that fight. I don’t think it’s a good idea for Crawford to move up in weight and fight Canelo. Canelo is just too big, too good.”

What’s your perspective on:

Can Terence Crawford's skill overcome Canelo's size, or is he stepping into a losing battle?

Have an interesting take?

Kavaliauskas’s words carry weight because of his history with Crawford as his comments are based on his experience with ‘Bud’ in the ring. Kavaliauskas knows that stepping up to face someone like Canelo, who has dominated in multiple weight classes, would be an enormous test for Terrence Crawford. At 5’8″, Crawford is significantly smaller than Canelo, who stands at 5’9″ but possesses a much more muscular frame.

‘Cinnamon’ has also had years of experience fighting at 168 lbs, while Crawford has primarily fought at welterweight (147 lbs) and would need to move up multiple weight classes to challenge the multi-weight, unified boxing champion. However, with the speculation it might be clear who’s gonna win. Here comes ShowBizz the adult, who like most of the fans predicted a clear win for Canelo Alvarez but later had to change his mind. Why? Let’s take a look.

ShowBizz the Adult Shifts Viewpoint

Initially, ShowBizz the Adult had a similar stance to Mike Tyson and Kavaliauskas. He was highly skeptical about Crawford’s chances against Canelo, particularly due to the size disparity. Like others, he also highlighted Crawford’s vulnerability to clean punches in his WBO Interim World super-welterweight fight with Israil Madrimov in BMO Stadium, Los Angeles. In that fight, Crawford took several significant hits from Madrimov. In contrast, ShowBizz pointed to the success of Floyd Mayweather Jr., who defeated Canelo Alvarez in September 2013 despite a size disadvantage.

However, ShowBizz’s opinion has since evolved. In a later video, he predicted a victory for Crawford, suggesting that Canelo’s struggles when moving backward could be exploited. He pointed to Canelo’s defeats to Floyd Mayweather and Dmitry Bivol, both of whom used excellent footwork and ring intelligence to neutralize the Mexican boxing champion’s power. ShowBizz speculated that Crawford could employ similar tactics, using a body jab and clever footwork to keep Canelo at bay and avoid being overwhelmed by his power.

As the buildup to this potential showdown continues, opinions about the fight are varied. For now, boxing fans are on the edge of their seats, eagerly awaiting the next chapter in this captivating saga. So what do you think? Do you believe Terence Crawford can overcome the size and power advantage of Canelo Alvarez? Or is it too risky for Crawford to move up multiple weight classes to face Canelo?
