On April 5th, 2025, Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions kicked off a fresh chapter with its first event on DAZN. However, the night cast a shadow over Joe Joyces future who succumbed to a 10-round unanimous decision defeat against Croatian heavyweight Filip Hrgovic.

The Juggernaut suffered his second consecutive loss and fourth defeat in his last five fights. Now 39, the string of setbacks might signal the end of the road for Joyce, a sentiment echoed by Hrgovic and especially his promoter Frank Warren, who believe it’s time for the heavyweight to call it quits.

Frank Warren cautions Joyce on boxing’s long term effects

BoxNation got the hold of Warren as he was basking in the glory of another successful event. The promoter talked about the success of the event and what it meant for his promotion going forward. However, as the conversation landed on Joe Joyce, Warren’s expression changed. “He needs to sit down with his family and really take stock of the situation,” he stated, casting uncertainty over the 39-year-old’s next steps.

However, Warren wasn’t completely convinced by the result of the fight. “That fight for me could have gone either way. I didn’t agree with a couple of those judges certainly one of the judges. I don’t know what fight he was watching but I’m not complaining about the decision just some of those stories,” he added.

Even with his reservations about the decision, Warren’s stance on Joyce’s career was clear: it’s time for a serious reflection. He said, “For him to come back now he’d have to get into another big fight and it’s not that it ain’t going to get any easier.” After all, recovery gets hard at 39 and even though he won’t force Joyce into anything, the risks are heavy for the Olympic silver medalist.

“Those fights sometimes catch on up on you. He don’t need to rush into any decision and at the end of the day they should you know think about the consequences. Cuz there comes a time in boxing where this stuff catches up on you when you’re older,” Warren concluded.

What’s your perspective on:

Is it time for Joe Joyce to hang up the gloves, or does he have one last fight?

Joe Joyce: Ever the Entertainer

Undoubtedly, Joe Joyce’s career has taken a nosedive in the last few years. From the WBO interim heavyweight champion with a 15-0 record, he now sits at 16-4 with his star power fading fast. Even the Hall Of Fame promoter told Ring Magazine that “it’s gonna be very tough for him to get back in the mix.”

However, even amidst the wreckage, Joe Joyce has maintained a positive outlook. In the post-match interview, he stated, “It wasn’t my time this time but erm, we’ll do it again!” declaring that he is not ready to walk away yet. “Yeah, are you not entertained?” he joked around, doubling down on his self-belief.

Truth be told, the Joyce-Hrgovic clash was indeed entertaining. Both heavyweights put on a slugfest with only a few moments differentiating them. And even though the scores will tell you something different, as Frank Warren said, it was a sensational fight.

However, as the Londoner is still looking for a comeback, it is more of a headache for Warren than Joyce. After all, it is Warren who is stuck figuring out how to land him another juicy fight to get him back in the title picture, a hard ask given Joe Joyce’s recent performances.
