Edgar Berlanga recently showed his deep ambition. Even though the 25-year-old boxer is just in the beginning stages of his career, he has already set his sight on the top. Having moved from being associated with ESPN and Top Rank to now joining forces with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing. For now, Berlanga is preparing to face off against Ireland’s Jason Quigley in Madison Square Garden Theater, New York. This will be his debut bout fighting under Matchroom’s banner. Meanwhile, Canelo is fresh off a bout against Ryder, looking for a Bivol fight, to prove his mettle in the ring. However, Bivol has previously stated his desire to fight Alvarez in the super middleweight division. Due to the sanctions against the Russian fighters because of the invasion of Ukraine, he is not eligible for a title shot.

This has raised some hope in other fighters as they are taking the chance to challenge Alvarez. Moreover, Berlanga (20-0, 16 KOs) believes that if he and Alvarez fought the PPV generated for the fight would be huge. He took to social media as he wrote, “My focus is June 24th”. He added, “But if me and Canelo fought, easily we’ll do over 1.5 million in PPV buys.” However, for now, his claims seem ambitious but highly unlikely to take place. Only time will tell who will get to share the ring with Alvarez next.

However, Saul does not seem to be much interested in the match as of now. The reason must be the stinging defeat he suffered at the hands of Bivol on his ambitious venture to the light heavyweight division. Recently, shocking reports came out that Benavidez’s team had offered the champ $50 million. Although Alvarez’s coach Eddy Reynoso denied the claims. This led to Benavidez’s promoter Sampson Lewkowicz slamming him in an online post. As the news came out fans shared their concern for Benavidez as they warned the “Mexican Monster”. For now, it seems as though Canelo will most likely fight Bivol next, however, Benavidez is a must for the champion if he wants to keep a stranglehold in the division.
