At the beginning of the month came the news that David Benavidez‘s team offered a nearly $50 million payday to ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. But reportedly, the proposition drew a deadpan response from the Mexican Super Middleweight champion and his team. Continually, Alvarez stated that his focus rests on Dmitry Bivol and avenging last year’s loss to the Russian Light Heavyweight. But it seems his Matchroom stablemate had already chalked out a plan that doesn’t include Alvarez.

Quoting eminent journalist Mike Coppinger, talkSPORT’s Michael Benson shared a new development enveloping the Light Heavyweight scene. Dmitry Bivol wants to settle arguments on the division’s undisputed title holder with fellow Russian Artur Beterbiev. Within no time, nearly two hundred viewed the post, and many joined the discussion to air their standpoints.

A user named Doug Brammer stated matter-of-factly that a fight that all boxing lovers would love watching is on the horizon. He asserted that the Alvarez-Bivol match barely stood on anyone’s wish list.

Seconding Doug, the following user urged Bivol to continue the Beterbiev fight. While the former will gain immensely, the sport, on the other hand, badly needs a contest of such high caliber. Whereas Beterbiev has been in the game for long, he is already thirty-eight and understands that the clock is ticking against him. So irrespective of the number of belts he might receive in the exchange, Bivol should proceed with the prospect.

It seems like many Bivol fans joined in to give a big shout-out to their hero. For instance, one user stated that regarding money-making, ‘Canelo’ Alvarez might reap some benefits, as he is still a big draw. Otherwise, as far as pure fighting is concerned, the likes of him (the user) would only wish for a Bivol-Beterbiev match. Bivol has gained immense respect from fans and followers by pushing for a fight with the Russian-Canadian boxer.

Another user named Abdul Barber contends that as far as their nationalities are concerned, it stands irrelevant. Both are Russians, even though Beterbiev has taken up Canadian citizenship. However, these minor hurdles should hardly cause problems getting them both in the ring. Bivol and Beterbiev should bring their clash to fruition and put all other distractions on the back burner. Everyone’s keen to watch their slugfest alone.

But that didn’t prevent a few naysayers from voicing out their feelings. Like the following user who believes Bivol would invariably land on Alvarez’s doorstep after Beterbiev concludes the business with him.

Given WBC’s stand on Russian athletes, how the two fighters will sort out the formalities remains to be seen. In the meantime, Beterbiev would be defending his title from Callum Smith on August 19. Their match would occur in Quebec City, Canada’s Videotron Center. Bivol, the Ring magazine’s ‘Fighter of the Year 2022’ award recipient, is yet to return to the ring post the title defense against ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez on November 5.
