The clash between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn had been heavily hyped leading up to Saturday night’s action-packed show. The animosity was real, the competitive fire was undeniable, and fans were eager to see the two generational rivals finally settle the score. However, ‘The Destroyer’ ultimately fell short of doing what his father couldn’t decades ago.

Despite the result, the fight delivered exactly what fans had hoped for—a thrilling, back-and-forth battle. In the end, Chris Eubank Jr., who was surprisingly joined by his father, Chris Eubank Sr., at the last minute, emerged victorious via a unanimous decision after 12 grueling rounds. The fight was so intense that even in victory, Eubank Jr. was rushed to the hospital with a broken jaw.

The judges all scored the bout 116-112, handing Conor Benn the first loss of his professional career. Yet, in a sharp contrast to the heated buildup, the aftermath saw both fighters exchange genuine respect. This admiration continued into the post-fight press conference, where Benn delivered a humble message to his opponent. “I mean, I wish him well,” a visibly disappointed Benn said while surrounded by a sea of reporters. “He’s gone to the hospital. I bet he’s got a broken jaw. So I wish him a speedy recovery.” He also thanked Chris Eubank Sr. for showing up to support his son, despite initially refusing to be in his corner due to concerns over the weight disadvantage Benn faced.

“It wouldn’t have been what it was [without] Senior there,” Benn said, branding the fight a “family affair.” Meanwhile, he didn’t seem to agree with what the judges had scored the fight.

Conor Benn alleges that the Chris Eubank Jr. fight was close

Heading into the fight, Chris Eubank Jr. looked drained during the weigh-in even though he missed the weight on Friday by 0.05 pounds. However, on Saturday morning, he managed to keep his weight under the 170-pound limit, avoiding paying another hefty fine that he had paid after initially missing the weight limit.

This led many to believe Benn could run away with a win, but it was clear Eubank Jr. was mostly in control of the fight. But Benn didn’t agree, stating, “It’s a hard one because I felt like it could have been close. I felt like it could have been a draw.” He explained that the fight could have gone either way. Still, he was confident about one thing.

“All I know is I gave everything I had in there tonight,” he said. There are already talks of a rematch between the two for later this year. While Eubank may prefer not having it, another big payday from the Saudis could convince him to take a rematch before turning his attention towards a potential fight against Canelo Alvarez, which was previously being talked about.

That said, it appears that despite suffering a bitter loss, Conor Benn has taken a more humble approach to address his opponent. Whether there will be a rematch is yet to be seen, but after the performance on Saturday night, everyone will want one. Would you like to see a rematch?
