It was just earlier this year that the buzz around the Anthony Joshua vs. Deontay Wilder fight was off the charts. The $400 million prize talks for a Saudi event with Joshua-Wilder and Fury-Usyk collapsed. The Saudis lost interest and the whole thing became a mess. This all unfolded in April, and much has changed since that time.

At the moment, however, the entire fight is still in jeopardy. There have been issues with the contract, the location, and the PPV. It seems no one can agree on anything. As long as that continues to be the case, a fight between the two is a difficult prospect. However, Eddie Hearn, as AJ’s promoter, has still not lost all hope. He seems to be trying to make it all work somehow. According to him, the ship for the bout between the two has not sailed.

Eddie Hearn Lays it in the Line

Eddie Hearn, the British promoter, has tried every trick in the book to make this dream match happen, According to him, with respect to the match’s location, he is actively pursuing new offers from the Middle East. In a recent interview with Boxing Social, Hearn revealed that the issues that their side had with Wilder’s promoters were almost ironed out. However, more recent problems have pushed the bout even further. When asked about the fight, Hearn said, “Obviously, we’ve received the offer. We accepted the offer, as did Deontay Wilder. And now, at the moment, we can’t move forward with that.”

According to Hearn, the issue at the moment concerns the location of the fight. In regards to it, he revealed, “We do have other offers that have come in and we have other opportunities to do that in other locations. So you know, I made it clear to Shelly last night that we want to make the fight. We’ll speak to AJ about a couple of offers that have come in.”

When asked to specify which Middle Eastern country reached out amid the dropout from Saudi, Hearn chose not to comment any further. Hearn refused to specify when the actual matchup between the two would take place. However, he reiterated that Deontay Wilder still remains the likely opponent for AJ.

The emergence of these multiple offers seems a little sketchy. However, if it does ring true, it would mean a significant breakthrough and a big payday for all parties involved. Not to mention the excitement for fans who have been eagerly awaiting the legendary matchup.

However, the promoter has more on his plate at the moment. Hearn is preoccupied with controversies surrounding Conor Benn’s failed drug tests.

The Saudis are currently busy promoting an upcoming match between Tyson Fury and former UFC champion Francis Ngannou. However, it is to be noted that if Tyson Fury wants to keep his WBC heavyweight title, he would without a doubt have to step into the ring with Joshua or Wilder.
