There is no end in sight for Ryan Garcia’s troubles following his positive doping test results from last month’s skirmish against Devin Haney, which led to a split decision win for Ryan Garcia. After his A-Sample tested positive for ostarine, revealed on 1 May by VADA, ‘King Ry’ Garcia’s B-Sample has also shown identical results on Thursday.

However, Garcia seems to have countered the B-Sample results by submitting a hair sample to the Paris clinic, which has tested negative for the performance enhancing substance. In addition, Garcia’s legal team has brought forth potential supplement contamination, suggesting Garcia was taking ashwagandha, which could have caused the positive test results. However, Haney’s promoter Eddie Hearn isn’t buying any of it, as he highlighted the dangerous beating Haney took while giving his verdict on the matter, which might not be the greatest news for ‘The Dream.’

Devin Haney might not get his zero back for the Ryan Garcia loss

Besides testing positive for ostarine, Garcia also showed up 3.2 lbs heavier for the Devin Haney fight. And since the adverse findings in Garcia’s system came to light, Haney has been advocating for turning the decision in his favor and giving Garcia a disqualification loss. However, reacting to Garcia’s new hair sample argument, Hearn said,I really can’t believe the response, it’s almost like, ‘oh Ryan’s been really hard done by here and Devin stop moaning take your defeat like a man.’”

Hearn argues Devin Haney shouldn’t have to be okay with Ryan Garcia coming in overweight and with performance-enhancing drugs in his system. He added, “He took a beating at times in that fight, dangerous beating, you know. So, then you look at it and say, ‘if this guy cheated and Devin took that kind of beating, this is a bad situation.’”

The head of Matchroom Boxing asserted after such findings, Garcia and his legal team will have to present a case for his innocence in front of the New York State Athletic Commission. But regardless of the outcome, Hearn believes the results of the fight will be turned into a no-contest, which Haney and his corner might not like because they are pushing for disqualification.

“One thing’s for sure, the fight will be a no contest. I mean, I know they’re pushing for a disqualification, [but it will be a no contest.],” said Hearn. While Haney might want an outright disqualification, a statement from Garcia’s legal team has positioned the case towards a rematch.

Missing piece of the puzzle

The New York State Athletic Commission is yet to set a date for Garcia’s hearing in connection with the adverse findings. Meanwhile, according to a statement from Garcia’s legal team, they claimed the Victorville native is committed to clean and fair fighting, and “He vehemently denies any intentional use of a banned substance.”

They added, “Ryan voluntarily had his hair collected and shipped to Dr. Pascal Kintz, the foremost expert in toxicology and hair sample analysis.” Based on negative results from this test and the “ultra-low levels,” found in the samples collected on 19 and 20 April, Garcia’s legal team argues that the 25-year-old was a “victim of supplement contamination.”

They are currently in the middle of discovering exactly which supplements the performance enhancing substance came from. Also, Garcia’s attorney, Darin Chavez, suggested the boxer had taken Ashwagandha because he was facing difficulty falling asleep in the lead up to the fight.

Despite Garcia’s downfall, Eddie Hearn speculates Devin Haney is unlikely to get what he wants and the results will likely be declared a no contest. However, nobody can be sure completely until the hearing, for the matter, concludes. Do you think Ryan Garcia should be disqualified and Haney should be given the win?
