Adrien Broner is unapologetically himself. The 34-year-old has been making headlines for the right reason in the last few months. After staying out of the sport and suffering from gambling addiction and alcohol abuse, Broner made a successful comeback in June. He fought and defeated a welterweight fighter, Bill Hutchinson. This victory opens up opportunities for him to fight for the title again.
Moreover, amidst his comeback, a video of ‘The Problem’ and his hostile interaction with the CEO of Mayweather Promotions, Leonard Ellerbe has resurfaced. Their interaction took place in 2018 before his fight against Jessie Vargas. At the time, Ellerbe was Broner’s promoter. Yet, the 34-year-old boxer resorted to calling him out publicly— but why?

It is not surprising to see animosity flare up at boxing press conferences. However, it is rare for a boxer to come down strongly on his own team member so publicly. Back in 2018, during a press conference, Broner was evidently frustrated and bothered by numerous people. One of the people was none other than Ellerbe, a member of his own team, and he did not shy away from making it evident.
Throughout the press conference,’ The Problem,’ was seemingly uninterested and was listening to music on his phone. But at a certain point, he expressed his disdain for people in the media and Ellerbe for not being the pillar of support he wanted them to be for him.
He stated, “And I know all y’all against me. Leonard Ellerbe against me. They just b*tch a*s N*gga. Leonard a b*tch a*s N*gga too. Ahh Shut up, you ain’t with me.”
The clip resurfaced online and Broner shared it on his Instagram story. In addition, during the press conference, he revealed that his colleagues and people in the media want him to not succeed and see him live a luxurious life. However, how did Ellerbe respond to this situation at the time?

After this debacle, Ellerbe confessed he was not bothered by the comments at all. If anything, he was proud of how his promotions took care of the event. As per RingTv, he stated, “I’m the CEO of Mayweather Promotions, we’re the co-promoter of this card — done a phenomenal of promoting this event. I’ll continue to do that. As I’ve said, this isn’t about me, whether someone likes me, I could care less.”
