The fight is four years in the making as the pair was initially supposed to face each other back in 2018, but the fight got called off after Figueroa suffered an injury. However, it looks like ‘The Problem’ might just call off the fight once again if he could get an exhibition bout against Floyd Mayweather.

Broner reveals he would call off his fight for a potential exhibition

Broner appeared on the show Cigar Talk and stated that even though he had a fight coming up within 3 weeks, it is not getting the same coverage as someone like the Paul brothers would get.

They keep doing all this and I’m not hating. I love Jake Paul, I love Logan Paul, I love what they doing for the sport. All that sh*t is cool but I’m just saying bro that I got a fight in 3 weeks, bro.” He said.

Moreover, he also claimed that he would cancel his next fight if Mayweather called him up for an exhibition bout in September that could earn him a cool nine figures, “If Floyd call me and say we gonna do an exhibition, I will stop that fight and we’ll be doing the fight in September when pay-per-view go off and we can do a fight in September exhibition. It won’t go on neither one of our records it’s just culture and we walk away with 9 figures and they gonna pay for that today.” He added.

If an exhibition fight between Broner and Mayweather does take place, it would certainly give Broner more money than the Figueroa by a long shot.

Broner was cited to be boxing’s next star during his prime, however, he got caught up in a lifestyle filled with partying that eventually led to his downfall in the sport. The Problem has fought Jessie Vargas to a draw and lost to Manny Pacquiao in 2018. His most recent fight was a decision win over Jovanie Santiago back in February 2021. Broner currently has a record of 34-4-1 and has held titles in four divisions.

Mayweather, on the other hand, retired from boxing in 2017, but still competes in exhibition bouts, which could open the possibility of an exhibition with Broner. Although the fight would have been a must-watch event when both were in their primes, an exhibition today could still be a huge draw.
