In a recent pinch, former welterweight champion Adrien Broner announced his next fight against 16-1 boxer Blair Cobbs on social media. According to his Instagram post, the fight is slated to take place on May 31. However, other details, like the location and the weight class, are currently unknown.

Sharing a poster for their fight, ‘The Problem’ Broner wrote, “May 31st the return of “The Can Man” and @blairtheflair go get it!!!!!” Meanwhile, even his opponent turned to Instagram with a message. Cobbs wrote, “The Return of The Flair VS The Can Man @adrienbroner May 31st It’s A*s Whoopin Time!!! Woooo!!!”

Broner last appeared in the ring back in June last year against (20-3-4) Bill Hutchinson, winning the fight via unanimous decision. Meanwhile, Cobbs hasn’t fought anyone since August 2022. The 34-year-old Philadelphia native’s last dance in the ring was against 27-3-3 Maurice Hooker, a fight Cobbs won by an unanimous decision.

Besides some regional titles, the welterweight hasn’t really fought for or held any major titles. Whereas, Broner’s unanimous decision loss to Manny Pacquiao in 2019 saw him spiral down to irrelevancy. The upcoming fight will mark Broner’s second fight since his comeback in 2021. However, Cobbs wasn’t Broner’s first choice as an opponent.

After his Don King promoted fight against Hutchinson, ‘The Can Man’ Broner hoped big fights would come knocking at his door. And one fight did come to him. In one of his Instagram stories, Broner claimed he wasn’t aware of an offer from Oscar De La Hoya to fight Ryan Garcia. However, Broner claimed he was ready for it!

In a more recent note, Broner got into a spat with Conor Benn, challenging him to a fight. Benn even shared their conversation on social media, where Broner said, “Ok I will gladly f**k you up b**ch *ss n***a and after I’m done I’m go pop open a brand new bottle in the middle of the ring f**k ya!!!!”

Moreover, Broner was even down to throw down with Devin Haney. After Bill Haney had downplayed Broner’s viability as Devin’s opponent, ‘The Problem’ sent out a harshly worded message for Bill. “Ah @billhaney__ if you wanna get your son @realdevinhaney f**ked up send the contract I ain’t never ran from no man in boxing why would I run from your son he can’t punch himself out a wet paper bag stop all that cap,” Broner wrote in a social media post.

With that said, despite Broner’s desire to compete with current top fighters in welterweight, he seems to have settled with a rather unknown name. However, the fight would interesting none the less. If Adrien Broner wins, it’s unlikely he will rejuvenate his old fame. However, if his opponent wins, things may look up for Blair Cobbs. Are you excited about his next fight?
