The biggest boxing show on earth is over. Oleksandr Usyk is the new undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. He defeated Tyson Fury by a split decision to sit on the throne left vacant for the last 25 years. The impressive event at Riyadh’s Kingdom Arena featured an array of undercard fights.

Overall, the event has been tremendously successful. The fight has a great chance of standing in the ‘Fight of the Year’ contention. However, a few side issues did make their way, keeping the fans and followers busy. For instance, an innocuous query, apparently raised by a celebrity, on commercials making their way to a PPV show attracted significant attention among net users. Some of them took the opportunity to voice their own views.

Question of Boxing with Ads or Without Ads

The appearance of commercials during one of the fights in the Tyson Fury-Oleksandr Usyk main card allegedly irked the Brooklyn-born actress Rosie Perez. Tagging the Anthony Cacace and Joe Cordina fight, DAZN, ESPN, and the hashtag ‘Fury-Usyk’, she asked, “”With all due respect… If it’s PPV, why the commercials???” It didn’t take long before a number of followers jumped in with their thoughts and views.

Ideally, a pay-per-view show should go without any sort of advertisement. Per the available reports, the norm stays in the United States. Many fans might recall the year-old tweet from Dan Rafael, in which he raised a similar question.

Terming commercials showing up in DAZN as ‘unreal’, he said, “UNREAL!!! Commercials on @DAZNBoxing PPV that I am paying yet another fee for already as the ref is taking a point from Batista at end of rd 4!! HORRIBLE! DAZN does literally everything piss people off!!!!!!!!!

Most of the users seemed to have agreed with the Hollywood actress’ concern.

Fans’ Dilemma

Especially in boxing with such a short break in-between rounds, allowing the space for advertisements appeared out of place for many. Let’s check out what some of the twitterati wrote.

This user mentioned how he is able to enjoy the PPV features better on ESPN in comparison to DAZN.

The next one seems to agree with Perez. They pointed out that instead of a ten-second commercial, they would prefer hearing what the different corners are talking about. It helps them understand more about the fight.

Appearing greatly disturbed, this follower lamented how one has to pay- for the PPV service over and above the subscription fee. According to their view, DAZN deserves a boycott.

The user termed it a big-time farce!

Paying for a premium service should eliminate the need for commercials, as this follower pointed out.

Since the tweet had DAZN tagged, it would do good to refer to what the streaming service’s website says.

‘DAZN.com’ states, “Like many sports broadcasters, we show commercials in short breaks (such as half-time) during games. We charge advertisers a fee to show these commercials, and we use the revenue we get from this to help us buy rights to broadcast sports events. These rights allow us to show you the big sporting events you see on DAZN.

Nevertheless, the user experience cannot be brushed aside. Perhaps, given a choice, most fans would go for a commercial-free pay-per-view service.

What’s your take on the matter? Do you also agree that there shouldn’t be any advertisements on PPV streaming?
