Legendary boxer turned promoter Oscar De La Hoya thinks that his client and lightweight contender Ryan Garcia should not have skipped his tune-up fight. Garcia is currently one of the top prospects in the division and wants to face another contender and rival Gervonta Davis next year.

The two were initially supposed to take on other contenders before they face each other. Garcia was supposed to face former two-time title challenger Mercito Gesta while ‘Tank’ would take on Hector Luis Garcia. Despite this Garcia decided to call off his fight claiming that he needed to have ample rest before the Davis fight. However, De La Hoya thinks its a bad idea for his client to not compete.
Oscar De La Hoya wanted Garcia to have a tune-up fight
In an interview with Fight Hype TV, he claimed that this would turn out to be a mistake for Garcia. In addition, he stated that he along with all of Garcia’s trainers need to keep him physically and mentally ready when the fight eventually happens.
“I strongly believe (skipping the tune up fight) is a big mistake. But we all we have to do is wish (Ryan Garcia) the very best and tell him to stay in shape, stay in the gym, continue training, sparring, stay focused and prepare for the big day.” he said.

While Garcia might have called off his tune-up fight, Davis will still take part in his. He will face Hector Garcia on January 7th ahead of this highly anticipated bout next year.
When are Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia fighting?
The fight between the two lightweight giants will take place next year. Although an official date is yet to be announced many speculate the fight will take place in April or the months around it. Moreover, the final date will be revealed after Davis’s bout which he should comfortably win.

This rivalry has been dragging on for ages without a fight to settle the score. However, the fans could finally see the two bitter foes cross heads in the ring next year. In addition, the winner of this fight could go on to challenge Devin Haney and secure the status of an undisputed champion.
