In his prime, Mike Tyson surely seemed unstoppable. The former two-time Heavyweight champion was a whole different specimen. Even though he was shorter for a Heavyweight, that did not stop him from cementing his legacy as one of the all-time greats. Many boxers have tasted defeat at the hands of Tyson, and there is one for whom the defeat was more than just losing any other fight. Becoming a champion is every boxer’s dream, and to hold the title once is what every boxer aspires for.

Recently, former WBC heavyweight champion Frank Bruno took to Twitter to share a startling revelation with his fans and share a thing he is proud of himself for.

Bruno fought Mike Tyson twice during his professional career. Unfortunately, in both fights, the Englishman fell short. The ‘True Brit’ lost to ‘Iron’ Mike via TKO in both fights. Twenty-seven years after their second encounter, the 61-year-old took to Twitter to share a message with his fans.

The former champ recalled his fight with Mike Tyson and said that he was told that his career was over when he lost his second fight against Tyson. The Brit added that he tried his best during the fight, but Tyson was the better man, and he prevailed during the fight. But those defeats were not enough to break the champ’s will. Bruno is proud of being able to hold the Heavyweight champion, even for a short time, before losing it to Tyson in their second bout.

After his loss to Mike Tyson in their second bout, Bruno decided to retire from professional boxing. His record stands at 40 wins with 38 knockouts, against 5 losses. Interestingly, last year, Bruno had a warning for the current WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

Why did Frank Bruno retire?

Boxing can cause some severe damage to the bodies of the ones involved. And that was somewhat the case with Frank Bruno. As much as he would have liked to continue his career, he was advised by the doctors to stop boxing. Bruno learned that he might lose his vision in one eye if he kept fighting, and that’s a risk no one would like to take. He retired at the age of 34.
