Why did Mike Tyson bite Holyfield’s ear off?

This fight was not the first time that these two faced each other, as this was the rematch. In the first fight, Holyfield pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the sports after beating Tyson in the 11th round. Moreover, the second fight also looked like it was going in the same direction.

‘Iron Mike’  was seemingly getting frustrated by Holyfield’s use of his head as he head-butted Tyson several times through the fight, which even opened a cut above his right eye. In the third round, Tyson started without his mouth guard and bit Holyfield around the nip of his ear. Holyfield started jumping in agony and pointed towards his ear to inform the referee. Tyson was disqualified and paid a fine of $3 million. Holyfield would also go on to lose his next fight against Lennox Lewis while Tyson was facing his suspension.
