After retirement from MMA, ‘21 saw Anderson Silva return to the boxing ring. Yet, advancing years thus far do not seem to have marred his performance. Ring victories against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., the former WBC Middleweight title holder and former MMA Light Heavyweight Champion Tito Ortiz, sealed his boxing credentials.

First announced on September 6, the match on Saturday, October 29, at the Gila River Arena in Phoenix, Arizona will settle the question of who has a stronger chin. An out-of-retirement, 47 years old Silva or half-his-age opponent.

The bout hasn’t been without its share of discussions and retorts. Criticized for being selective about opponents, Jake Paul standing at 190 pounds, had picked up a much lighter, 170-pound-weighing Tyron Woodley in the last show.

No surprises when doubts crossed rapper and boxer KSI, whose younger brother Deji had once bitten dust at Jake Paul’s hands in 2018.

Tweeting two days before the main event. He said,

A composed Spider hinted upon comments stretched and taken afar without reason, surprising many, expecting a heated duel.

Although a naturalized American citizen since 2019, Anderson Silva hails from Brazil. Coming from a poor background with few education opportunities, his social media interactions, though they enthuse and thrill millions of fans, suffer the perennial English handicap.

Things turned topsy-turvy when he mentioned being knocked out twice during an interview with MMA Weekly.

The Spider said, “I’m training hard for win,” said Silva. “I’m training with the good boxers, high-level, and five guys come to help me. And the last sparring with Eliezer [Silva], he’s my partner, he knocked me out two times. When I finished the training, I talked to my coach and even said, ‘Coach, let me tell you something, why the guys knock me out two times?’ And the coach said, ‘You need to prepare for war, and you prepare for war.’”

Forced into a clarification, Silva’s camp confirmed, “After seeing the reports and concern for me, I’d like to clarify two important things,” said Silva. “One, I was NEVER knocked out in sparring. I misspoke in that interview as I sometimes do when interviewing in English and exaggerated the normal back-and-forth action that occurs in sparring.

“Second, this sparring session I referenced was in early September,” continued Silva. “The interview with MMA Weekly was done on September 13 and, for some reason, released this week. So, it wasn’t recent.”
