Bullying is a problem that is faced by children all over the globe. At times, it creates an emotional scar on the child which lives on with time. On the other hand, being bullied can be considered a blessing in disguise for some. Time and time again, certain kids catalyze the frustration around being bullied to something prolific and transform themselves. Similarly, Azariy Moreno—a 10-year-old from Ashtabula, Ohio, got into the sport of boxing after being a victim of this crime.

Boxing has been a welcoming safe space for many bullying victims. Many fighters have made a mark in the sport after being tormented early on in life. Training in this combat sport helps in being self-confident and learning methods of defending oneself from being picked on. Similarly, when Moreno’s dad found out what was taking place with him at school, he took the initiative to put him in a boxing gym. Today, the 10-year-old has ambitions to make a name for himself in the sport as he gears up to win the junior Olympics title.

The story of Azariy Moreno and his future ambitions in the sport

Azariy Moreno is a young boy who studies in the 4th grade in a school in Ashtabula, Ohio. In a report via Yahoo! News, Moreno revealed that he was picked on in school. He states, “They mostly like called me names and they would like tripp me and stuff like that.” Although Moreno wanted to strike back, he lacked the confidence of doing so. His father mentioned that he was aware of his son being bullied in school and felt the need for Moreno to defend himself.

The narrator stated, “Azariy’s dad decided he needed to help his son’s energy and get out his frustrations in a healthy way, after being bullied.” With time, the young kid found his passion and was able to improve to such an extent, that he found himself being ranked number 1 in his weight division.

As of now, many of his bullies would not dare to torture him after witnessing him training and competing in the sport. Moreno hopes to win the junior olympic title and win 2 state titles. Reflecting on the same, he states, “My goal is to win the tournament and become a two- time national champion.
