After Ryan Garcia‘s MD victory over Devin Haney, in a shocking discovery, the former tested positive for a banned PED called Ostarine. Undoubtedly, the discovery infuriated and upset boxing fans alongside Team Haney. And now, almost two months after the fight, in light of Garcia’s failed drug test, Devin Haney announced he was hanging his gloves temporarily.

In May this year, the WBC assigned Devin Haney a mandatory opponent in Sandor Martin and ordered ‘The Dream’ to defend his Super-Lightweight title against the Spanish boxer who branded himself as Haney’s “worst nightmare“. And only yesterday, while Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing retreated, Top Rank won the rights to the purse bid of Devin Haney vs. Sandor Martin.

The situation did not please Devin and the boxer publicly blasted Matchroom for their “nasty work wishing he had bid on himself. Hours later, Haney took to X and declared he was taking a hiatus from boxing for two years demanding Ryan Garcia’s suspension. “Ima take some time.. spend some of my money.. travel the world & I’ll b back in two years after Ryan suspension & we can fight again,” he wrote in the post.

On the other hand, Bill Haney, Devin Haney’s father, echoing ‘The Dream,’ told ESPN that they would not participate in negotiations for any fight until Ryan Garcia’s doping case was adjudicated. Additionally, Bill demanded his son be considered undefeated in the sport since Garcia used a PED against ‘The Dream’.

Devin Haney was undefeated until he met Ryan Garcia this April. For 12 rounds, Garcia overwhelmed Haney. However, after ‘KingRy’ had tested positive for a banned substance, Haney’s attorney, Pat English, argued Garcia had an “unfair advantage” against ‘The Dream’. Now, based on this, Bill Haney feels his son is still unbeaten in the sport.

On the other hand, in a follow-up, Devin Haney asked for a specific testing method to be implemented in the sport.

While Team Haney rebuked Garcia, the latter’s attorney, Chavez, argued that Haneys were making excuses, being “thirsty for a W.” In his opinion, Team Haney could not accept the fact that they simply “underperformed and underestimated” the boxer from California. However, taking to X, after demanding Garcia’s suspension, Haney wrote, “Olympic style drug testing only.
