A monumental moment is about to unfold in the NBA. The Los Angeles Lakers drafted Bronny James, the eldest son of LeBron James, as the 55th pick in their 2024 NBA draft last month. Now, the two are ready to make history as the first father-son duo in the NBA to play ball on the same team together. Meanwhile, ‘The L-Train’ has also signed a two-year extension contract with the Lakers worth $101.35 million, further cementing his billionaire status among the handful of athletes in the world with a net worth of more than $1 billion. And Floyd Mayweather? For his part, he is totally stoked for them.
Bronny also inked a four-year deal with the Lakers worth $7.9 million, having played a lone season at the University of Southern California, where he played 25 games, averaging 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. Regardless, while speaking about the father-son duo potentially playing together, Floyd Mayweather wished them the best of luck.

During an interview with Fight Hype on the sidelines of Curmel Moton’s last outing, the reporter questioned Mayweather about his thoughts on Bronny and LeBron playing together. The five-division champion responded, stating, “I want to see all young athletes do good. Why not?” He further added, “You know I had my time, just like LeBron had his time. LeBron still got his time—he’s still performing well and we still want to see LeBron do good as well as his son”.
Not only that! Mayweather had something to say about LeBron’s whopping $101 million Lakers deal. When asked to comment on the figure that he’ll be receiving, Mayweather replied, “I’m proud of him no matter what,” and added, “I’m not here to count another man’s pocket.” Mayweather even shouted out the father-son duo. And hey, he’s not the only one hyped about this historic moment!

The last dance with his son, Bronny James
You know Bronny’s dad has been talking about hitting the court with his son for a season? Well, guess what? Looks like that dream is about to happen! James spilled the beans to the Athletic back in 2022, saying, “My last year will be played with my son. Wherever Bronny is at, that’s where I’ll be. I would do whatever it takes to play with my son for one year. It’s not about the money at that point.”
But hey, you heard about Bronny’s recent scare, right? Last July, the 19-year-old went into cardiac arrest during a practice game at USC. He had to undergo surgery for a congenital heart defect and had to sit out the first eight games of the season to recover. Tough break, but here’s hoping he comes back stronger for a historic season in the NBA.
