Did Netflix's streaming blunder ruin the most anticipated fight night of the year for you?

The Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson event in Texas has been full of action, but fans tuning in to watch the fight live on Netflix are facing technical difficulties. As anticipation builds for the night’s main event, prominent figures from the combat sports world, including MMA fighter Stephen Thompson and boxing promoter Lou DiBella, have voiced their frustration on social media.

The bout was broadcast exclusively on the video streaming platform, marking their debut in the sport. However, their entry into the world of combat sports hasn’t been smooth. From the very beginning of the event, viewers have expressed dissatisfaction, with complaints also surfacing during YouTuber Wade Willson‘s broadcast.

Not Netflix’s screw up

As the event gradually approaches its main event, the frustration continues to mount. While the event is free for subscribers of the streaming giant, offering an affordable alternative for fans, it appears that this convenience is being overshadowed by growing disappointment.

It’s worth mentioning that the reason behind the issues plaguing the video streaming platform at the moment is unclear. Meanwhile, Netflix has not officially addressed the issue through a statement on social media or otherwise.

Downdetector, who tracks outages by collating status reports from various sources, reported that the issue affected users in major metropolitan areas, including New York, Seattle, and Los Angeles, with scattered reports from other regions.

They also reported that 85,021 people were affected by 10:35 p.m. ET (0335 GMT Saturday). The streaming platform has faced similar issues in the past, with complaints flooding in after the ‘Love is Blind’ reality TV show aired on the platform last year in April.

Stephen Thompson is watching Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson in 480p

UFC mixed martial artist, Thompson, revealed he could barely watch the fight. “My Netflix for the Paul vs Tyson fight is streaming at a solid 480p right now….I feel like I’m watching live-action Minecraft… anyone else or just me,” Stephen Thompson wrote. Clearly, people across the globe are facing similar issues.

Meanwhile, boxing Promoter Lou DiBella seems to be having a similar issue. “I can’t … #boxing,” he wrote. DiBella might have to watch the highlights when Netflix uploads the fight on YouTube.

Another user roped in illegal streamers. “Illegal streamers right now seeing Netflix app not working,” the user wrote while sharing a picture of a man standing in the dark. Streaming boxing events illegally is a punishable offense.

Someone else was confused about whether he was the only one facing the issues. The user asked, “Anybody else’s @netflix service crashing constantly during #PaulTyson.” It’s worth noting that the issue is being fixed slowly.

The next user mocked the event. The user wrote, “I can’t wait to watch this fight. My Netflix resolution,” while sharing an image from Mike Tyson’s old Nintendo game. To top off the disappointment, people have waited for the fight for several months since it was postponed.
