UFC fighter turned Analyst Chael Sonnen spoke out via his YouTube channel and went off on the top heavyweight boxers. ‘The American Gangster’ echoed a sentiment felt by many boxing fans related to the difficulty in booking marquee match-ups. Chiefly, Sonnen had choice words for Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua as he reviewed a fight card set to go down this Saturday.

The sport of boxing has somewhat fragmented as of late, with a divide between traditional ranked boxing and showcase fights. While Paul vs Askren has something to offer from an entertainment standpoint, the real substance lies with Fury and Joshua. However, booking the two heavyweights has been an uphill task for all involved.

Chael Sonnen has fighting words for Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua

Chael Sonnen used Ben Askren vs Jake Paul as an example when explaining his frustration towards the way things are done in boxing. Fury and Joshua have been slated to fight for several years now, however, the specifics of the fight are still shaky. In stark contrast, things have been smooth sailing for the Paul vs Askren bout and much like many fans, Sonnen wants answers.

“Askren vs Paul, one of the biggest boxing matches of the year. I would argue the biggest boxing match that is signed. And I realize we got these two knuckleheads Fury and Joshua pretending they want to fight each other. Askren and Paul actually are.

“What’s the difference with Askren and Paul? They signed the contract and they’re going to fight. Joshua keeps saying he’d like to fight Fury and Fury keeps saying he’d like to fight Joshua. Why don’t you guys fight? Do you need Jake Paul to start managing you?”

While the fight is expected to take place at some point this year, it’s expected that certain roadblocks might present themselves. From Sonnen’s point of view, both men need to hasten the process and lace up the gloves. Both Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are in their competitive primes and it would be a shame to have them shelved any longer.
