Earlier this year, on April 20, Ryan Garcia shocked the world by knocking down Devin Haney three times and earning a unanimous victory. However, Garcia was 3.2 pounds heavier, downgrading it to a non-title bout. Furthermore, the New York State Athletic Commission overturned the victory as Garcia tested positive for the PED Ostarine.
Since then, every boxing fan has wished for a rematch and wondered what would happen if the duo faced each other on equal terms. With Garcia planning his return in 2025, boxing legend Mike Tyson also wished for the same as he appeared on Fox Sports Radio.
Mike Tyson and his childhood hero

The youngest heavyweight champion in the world appeared on Fox Sports Radio’s ‘Covino & Rich’ podcast. During the conversation, Steve Covino asked the 58-year-old whether boxers like Gervonta Davis, Teofimo Lopez, and Ryan Garcia compare to his childhood hero, Roberto Duran. Duran, a four-division champion, had a huge impact on Mike Tyson and was like an inspiration. Covino further named Julio Cesar Chavez while talking about his boxing icons growing up.
The Brooklyn native declared, “We can’t Overlook those guys. Those guys are tough guys,” claiming that the comparison only exists because “they are just in different eras.” Otherwise, every single boxer that Covino mentioned is a world-beater. Steve Covino took the conversation further and asked the 50-7 boxer whether he has a favorite in the 135-140 division or if he only watches heavyweight fights. Tyson, on record, has previously appreciated boxers like Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia and he didn’t shy this time as well.
According to Mike Tyson, it is hard to pick a favorite, as “they are all sensational.” However, the former heavyweight champion does wish to see one fight in 2025. He declared, “I think Ryan and Devin should fight again. That was a good fight man, that was a good one,” with a smile on his face.
While the boxing world and experts want Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia to fight again, it looks like the duo is doing everything to prevent that from happening. Both fighters want to sort it out in the court rather than inside the ring.

Ryan Garcia’s counterclaim
A couple of months ago, Devin Haney filed a lawsuit against ‘King Ryan’ in New York, alleging battery, fraud, and breach of contract. The lawsuit divided the boxing world, with many experts criticizing the move. However, neither Haney nor Garcia is ready to back down as the latter’s team has filed a counterclaim against the former WBC super lightweight champion and his father, Bill Haney.
A 33-page-long counterclaim sought $7.5 million in damages while denying multiple allegations to Haney’s lawsuit. Garcia’s lawyers claimed that the lawsuit by ‘The Dream’ was “wholly improper,” claiming it aimed “to harm his reputation, to encourage unwarranted investigations, and to obtain media attention.” Ryan Garcia’s attorney even accused Devin Haney and his father of harassment and wants the duo to be held accountable for the millions of dollars that ‘KingRy’ has lost because of this lawsuit.

With each passing day, the duo has been burning every bridge in sight, making the prospect of a rematch rather slim. While you can ‘Never Say Never’ when it comes to boxing, this rematch might be out of the question. Which is a shame for all the fans and, as we learned today, for Mike Tyson.
