WBA regular lightweight champion Gervonta Davis is gearing up for the biggest test of his professional boxing career. The two-division champion is set to face undefeated prospect Ryan Garcia in one of the biggest fights in modern boxing. Moreover, the rivals have been pitted against each other for a long time as their careers grew parallelly. Now the two will finally meet in April after almost two years of calling each other out and making a rivalry for the ages.

However, it seems that ‘Tank’ might not be taking this fight too seriously as he acted in quite an unprofessional manner. Davis was almost an hour and 50 minutes late for the first public press conference of the fight. Moreover. he was also called out by boxing legend Bernard Hopkins who was also disappointed in Davis’s behavior.

Bernard Hopkins calls out Gervonta Davis for not reaching on time

In a video shared by BOXING n BBQ, Hopkins can be seen addressing the reporters. He asked the reporters involved to cover the event in a professional manner and not be late. However, as he got to the part where he talks about being on time, he looks at Davis for a few seconds giving a clear indication the message was for him.

 

So all reporters everybody that play a role in the sweet science of boxing. Just treat it like that. Don’t be late, be on time” said Hopkins.

The former World Champion was not shy to take shots at ‘Tank’ who did end up making everybody in attendance wait. However, the WBA champion gave his reasoning about why he was late to the conference.

Davis explains why he was late for the press conference

Following the press conference, Davis explained why he was late to promote the biggest fight of his career. According to Boxing Scene, Davis apologized for being late and blamed it on traffic as well as not being prepared for the conference.

It was ridiculous, Just traffic, not prepared, things like that. I wanna say sorry to you guys for having y’all waitin’ and things like that. It was very unprofessional for me” said Davis.

While ‘Tank’ was late for his press conference which showed a little bit of unprofessionalism, it is not the end of the world. However, the two-time champion does need to understand the responsibilities that come with being an elite boxer and take on those responsibilities head-on instead of dodging them.
