Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn’s rivalry intensified again following an incident at a pre-fight press conference in the build-up to their April 26th showdown. During the faceoff, Eubank Jr. was seen holding an egg in his palm. As the two faced each other, Eubank Jr. cracked the egg on Benn’s face in a slapping motion. The act immediately triggered chaos, with members from both camps reacting aggressively, creating a brief physical scuffle between entourages before security intervened.

The BBBOfC quickly fined him £100,000($129,000) for the incident. When asked about the reason for his action, Eubank Jr. stated it was his response to the alleged PED consumption by Conor Benn, who, at the time it was found in his system, blamed it on his excessive consumption of eggs. Though their 2022 bout was canceled and Benn was banned from boxing by the UK Anti-Doping Agency, it seems it wasn’t enough for Chris Eubank Jr.

The act came without verbal warning and was followed by a visible escalation between both fighters’ camps. The confrontation did not continue into a full brawl, but tensions remained high throughout the remaining presser. The egg itself was not thrown — contrary to earlier social media headlines — but broken deliberately during the faceoff, escalating what had been an already confrontational event.

Eubank questions the penalty and compares it to past press events

Recently, in a conversation with Sky Sports, Eubank Jr. decided to speak on the fine imposed on him by the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC). “£100,000 for throwing an egg seems a little bit steep, especially looking at what others have done—tables thrown, people punched in the face. So £100,000 for an egg?” the East Sussex native said.

He was also asked about Conor Benn’s conduct throughout the promotion. “He’s an aggressive guy, he’s an emotional guy and he doesn’t know how to be calm, how to be collected—he doesn’t know how to think before he speaks. You know, he’s his father’s son, they’re both hotheads,” Eubank Jr. said, about Nigel Benn. The rivalry between the two fighters has drawn comparisons to the one between their fathers, who fought twice in the 1990s.

Their previous attempt to fight in October 2022 was cancelled after Benn tested positive for clomifene. Since then, both Benn has been cleared to fight and both fighters have returned to active competition. On 24 January 2025, Turki Alalshikh announced on social media that the bout between Eubank Jr. and Benn would be rescheduled for 26 April at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, in partnership with The Ring Magazine. Their bout on April 26, 2025, will be broadcast globally on DAZN pay-per-view and will serve as one of the headline fights on the Fatal Fury card. The card is one of several being produced through Alalshikh’s efforts to expand Saudi Arabian presence in the promotion and financial spheres of elite-level boxing.

Is a £100,000 fine for an egg incident fair, or is the BBBofC overreacting?
