The former welterweight champ Yordenis Ugas shared an emotional remark months after losing his WBA title in a unification bout against Errol Spence Jr.

The highly exciting contest was an action-packed trade that wounded both fighters, but the right eye injury inflicted on the Cuban by the back-to-back striking of the American southpaw has sidelined Ugas for some time.

Yesterday, the Olympic bronze medalist took to Twitter and wrote, “If in a fight or sparring I hurt a fighter’s eye, I would worry, I would send him a text message asking him how he feels and how his recovery is going. This is a sport, but at the end of the day, we fight and share the same dream. But there is no rancor in my heart. All cannot be as one.”

In the seventh round of the fight, Ugas suffered a fracture in his right eye. However, he continued to fight. Later, in the 10 round, the referee stopped the fight and announced Spence Jr. as the winner because Ugas was not able to open his right eye.

But Ugas was not happy with the referee’s decision because he wanted to continue the fight till the end. Earlier, in round six, he had injured Spence Jr, so he was confident of turning the tables.

After the fight, Ugas gave an update on his eye. He wrote, “Thanks to everyone who is sending in their prayers. My eye was like this closed and bleeding for almost 40 hours. It looked like tears of blood, but now it is open. In the next few days, with God’s favor, when the swelling and bruising are at zero, we will go back to the doctor…”

The 36-year-old came to battle Spence Jr. after sending legendary boxer Manny Pacquiao into retirement. However, he could not repeat the same against Spence Jr. and, moreover, took back a career-threatening injury.

As of now, Ugas is focused on recovery to get back to training as soon as possible. He is the third-best welterweight after Errol Spence Jr and Terence Crawford.
