Boxing fans still talk about the infamous rematch between Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield that happened 26 years ago. In a shocking moment, Tyson bit off Holyfield’s ear, leaving the crowd stunned. Moreover, Tyson also paid a fine of $3 million and was temporarily banned from boxing. At the time, fans couldn’t understand why Tyson lost control like that. However, ‘Kid Dynamite’ later confessed that it was his rage that led him to intentionally hurt ‘The Real Deal.’

The fight occurred on June 28, 1997, in Las Vegas. Originally billed as “The Sound and the Fury,” it’s now infamously known as “The Bite Fight.” This was actually a rematch; Tyson and Holyfield had fought seven months earlier. Now, 26 years later, Tyson confided in renowned Tennis Star Nick Nick Kyrgios about the fight. In the latest episode of his podcast, “Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson,” he elucidated how he did the “unthinkable” to achieve his legendary stature.

While expressing his feelings to the Australian Tennis Star, Tyson said that to be a champion, you can’t care about what others think. This is because people often root for the “bad guy” who fights against the system. He believes people admire the courage they themselves lack. Like Mike said, “I feel like you become the champion and don’t care. Yeah, you can’t care, you can’t care because if you care, no one’s gonna care about you. They want to—people really never say it openly, but normally they root for the bad guy, you know, fighting against establishments and all that stuff.”

Furthermore, Tyson admitted that he did things others wouldn’t, like biting someone on TV. He even mentioned that he used to be on medication and quit smoking cannabis when he turned professional. Throughout his career, he only drank alcohol. As ‘Iron Mike’ highlighted by saying, “They would never bite somebody here on television. I don’t know, I’m just that kind of guy. I was on medication all my life…I just drank throughout my career. My whole career, I drank only, smoked w**d on one fight, my whole career, I drank.”

However, one intriguing question remains what transpired after Tyson bit Holyfield?

What happened after Tyson bit Holyfield?

Once the fight halted, Tyson aggressively approached Holyfield and his coach, Tommy Brooks. Referee Lane then told Tyson’s team he was disqualifying Tyson for intentional biting, a warning he had previously issued. Holyfield left the ring soon after, indicating the bout’s conclusion to fans. Nearly half an hour post-conflict, announcer Jimmy Lennon Jr. confirmed Holyfield as the victor, retaining his WBA Heavyweight championship.

In a later press statement, Holyfield suggested Tyson bit him to dodge a knockout defeat, choosing disqualification as an out. Contrarily, Tyson’s trainer questioned the referee’s call in another interview, implying a supposedly ignored eye injury on Tyson.
