A young boxer met with an unfortunate end in El Salvador. Two notorious gang members shot down 22-year-old boxer, Alexis Navidad.
The killing took place when the boxer, along with two others, was on the sidewalk in front of his house. The police report detailed that the attack took place at around 6:30 on Sunday evening when a group of men shot at the three men, that included Alexis.
The medical staff declared him dead once he reached the hospital. One other man who fell to the ground after the shooting received lacerations. The authorities have not been able to determine the motive behind the attack.

National Institute of Sports President Yamil Bukele neglected the possibility of the young boxer’s ties with any illegal activity. He said that Alexis had been committed to the sport since he was fourteen years old. The official also added that the act will not go unpunished.
Due to the ongoing outbreak of Coronavirus, Navidad wouldn’t be able to get the farewell that he rightfully deserved.
“We know that due to the health emergency in the country, ‘El Payasito’ will not be able to receive the tribute he deserves, but we offer our most sincere expressions of condolence to his relatives and the great family of Salvadoran boxing,” said Bukele.

Wilfredo, the father of deceased boxer, pays heartfelt tribute to his sons
It was Alexis’ father who broke the news to the media about the unfortunate event. Wilfredo Navidad, the father of Alexis, is a renowned coach and a former boxer himself. He was also training his son.
“On Sunday afternoon my son was cowardly murdered. To the people and athletes who knew him, they know he was a friendly young man. He worked, fought for his tender son and was shortlisted for boxing … I only ask God to give us the strength to our family.”

Wilfredo added that he expects God to do justice. However, he also said that he expected earthly justice from the authorities concerned. As of now, no witnesses have come up to testify against the convicts.
Alexis debuted as a professional on November 18, 2017, and defeated Antonio Galeano. As per the data from the Salvadoran Boxing Association, Alexis “Payasito” Navidad “was a talented boxer with a great future”.
