Mesut Ozil retired from playing soccer professionally in 2023. However, the former Arsenal Football Club midfielder’s fitness regimen didn’t take a back seat. Running around a soccer field for 90 minutes with just one break in between is no easy feat. This often ensures that most soccer players stay shredded all year round. However, Mesut Ozil has now changed how he trains.
Only a handful of soccer players like Cristiano Ronaldo have muscular as well as ripped physiques. Meanwhile, most pro soccer players are lean and ripped with not too much muscle. However, after retiring from soccer, the ex-German national soccer team player has put on substantial muscle mass. In fact, his latest update has impressed the fitness community to quite an extent.
After 17 years of playing soccer professionally, Mesut Ozil almost exclusively did sports-specific training. While all athletes train for strength and conditioning, cardio is king when it comes to soccer. However, after retiring, the FIFA World Cup winner focused on a more balanced fitness regimen prioritizing hypertrophy.

The 35-year-old has trained under fitness coach Alper Aksac for nearly a year. Aksac’s first post with the soccer star dates back to July 2023. Since then, the pair have worked together, and Ozil has built an impressive physique. The former Arsenal attacking midfielder stood beside his coach and looked nearly as muscular in the latest update he put out on social media.
Although Ozil didn’t look as conditioned as his coach, the athlete has made some serious gains. When looking at the first post with his fitness coach, Ozil seems to have put on at least a few pounds of pure muscle. The fitness community also took notice of the 35-year-old’s gains.

The fitness community has two options for Mesut Ozil
Some fans of the former Arsenal player think Ozil has the potential to get into bodybuilding. “Ozil going to beat CBum,” wrote one fan. Chris Bumstead is the reigning five-time Classic Physique Olympia champion. While it’s safe to say the fan exaggerated, it’s also proof of how much muscle Ozil had gained. “Your transformation is crazy. The sniper M10 Ozil” praised another fitness enthusiast.
However, one fan thought the 35-year-old needed to put in more work during leg days. “Bro skipped every single leg day,” wrote the fan. Some fans, on the other hand, also thought Ozil’s physique looked like a mixed martial artist. “Bro about to join ufc,” joked one fan. Meanwhile, another fan commented, “Road to UFC fighter.”
