In the hustle and bustle of our fast-paced modern lives, we often find ourselves multitasking, trying to squeeze every ounce of productivity from every minute of our day. One area where this multitasking has become increasingly prevalent is in our eating habits. With the advent of smartphones, tablets, and television, it has become all too easy to divert our attention from our meals. Talking about the same topic in his recent edition of the Pump Club newsletter, legendary bodybuilder and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger issued a stark warning against distracted eating, especially in the context of television. Let’s take a look at what Schwarzenegger suggested.

“TV dinners might be a great way to unwind, but they can also trick you into eating more than you want. Research suggests that people who eat while watching their favorite shows consume significantly more calories than those who don’t,” Schwarzenegger wrote.

One of the primary issues with distracted eating is that it disrupts the brain-body connection during meals. When one sits down to eat, our brains and bodies work together to recognize hunger and fullness cues. However, when one is focused on a screen, it is less likely to pay attention to these signals. As a result, one might overeat, leading to weight gain and potential digestive problems.

Talking along the same lines, Arnold revealed, “Distracted eating makes it harder for you to recognize what you’re consuming. This mindless eating means your brain can’t do its job to help you know when you’re full, which can lead to overeating.”  But that’s not all, as Arnold suggests a few ways how to approach our meals.
